Role Summary

The Manager, Business Solutions - Teams is primarily responsible for the creation and development of turnkey and customized cross-platform team partnership programs that support revenue generation and partner retention associated with the MSG Team Sales sponsorship budgets. Properties within the Team Sales this role will focus on include: New York Knicks, Westchester Knicks, Knicks Gaming, MSG Sports Properties, MSG Arena, and future Team based ventures/platforms. The Manager, Business Solutions - Teams will work closely with the VP, Business Solutions and Team Property Leads to define the strategic sales plan around each of the teams. S/he will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to lead creation of Team platforms for prospective partners (new business) and current partners (upsells and renewals) through: ongoing communications with league (NBA/G-League/2K League) contacts, team relationships, MSG Network relationships, research (identify industry leaders, best practices, emerging technologies), platform development (idea generation, team marketing collaboration and proposal construction), rate card creation (pricing/P&L development), internal vetting (Division approvals), creative presentations (write sales deck outlines, collaborate with design team to bring vision to life) and inventory management. Efforts will be focused on all team inventory and strategies designed to maximize revenue streams for individual properties and the organization globally. S/he will work closely with internal sales and Account Management teams to position and sell newly created team platforms. In addition, s/he will work particularly close with the respective marketing teams/leads (including MSG Network, PR, team/player operations, ticketing, community relations, etc.) to develop partner opportunities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: leading partner brainstorms, working with coordinators in development of customized decks, attending pitch meetings, providing market research and competitive analysis, etc.

Specific Functions/Activities Summary

 


  • Oversee Team platform development and creation of all sales materials related to Team Properties

  • Lead partnership development process from brainstorm through account management transition, working closely with sales and account management and internal/external stakeholders, including league contacts

  • Liaise with sales and account management to understand partner/prospect needs/objectives to create new/customized integrated and compelling Team platforms

  • Work with SVP and VP property sales leads on path to budget; create, vet and build Team platforms (custom sales material outlines and P&L) accordingly; establish year-long development and sales strategy calendar of deliverables

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal/external stakeholders and key league (NBA) contacts and industry relationships to be top of mind during strategy planning

  • Fully understand MSG Networks platforms, potential cross platform opportunities and develop working relationship with MSG Network stakeholders

  • Proactively identify new assets and build creative turnkey platforms to generate new revenue opportunities

  • Rate card creation, pricing and P&L development

  • Develop and maintain deep knowledge of all Team properties and assets/rights granted by MSG; becoming everyone’s ‘go-to’ as the in-house ‘expert’

  • Build and manage sales materials ranging from upfronts and evergreens to full decks and compressed 1-pagers

  • Manage available inventory, track sold inventory, deadlines, property assets, designations and promotional rights granted by MSG

  • Collaborate with account management to develop case studies

  • Participate in sales presentations, as needed

 

Qualifications

 


  • Education: BA/BS Degree required; MBA preferred

  • Minimum Experience: 4-6 years in Team/League/Agency industry with sponsorship experience, providing value-added strategic direction

  • Passion for the sports and entertainment space, maintaining knowledge of sports/entertainment trends

  • Demonstrated exceptional project management skills to drive the process with the ability to create partnerships (vet and price, develop P&L and execute platforms); create sales material outlines, and develop strategy

  • Strong creative and innovative mindset with analytical skills

  • Highly detail-oriented and exercises solutions-focused approach

  • Successful experience navigating through multiple stakeholders at all levels

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Strong work ethic with ability to function independently while managing upwards to keep supervisor informed

  • Proven ability to excel while multitasking in fast paced environment

  • Excellent time management with ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to deliver exceptional work while hitting deadlines

  • Ability and skill-set to communicate directly with NBA league officials

Education

Candidates who have completed 60 credits of college-level coursework (representing 2 years), or have shown similar self-development through certifications, trade school coursework, etc. are preferred. Educational requirements may differ from job to job based on the role.
