Job Summary

 

Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to)

  • Prepares and protects existing or likely injuries for students participating in practices and games.
  • Provides Athletic Trainer coverage at practices and competitions to immediately evaluate injuries and recommend proper care or medical treatment.
  • Supervises part-time Assistant Athletic Trainer
  • Supervises the rehabilitation of a student with an athletic injury and understands the psychological needs of persons with athletic injuries.
  • Oversees the administration of the training room facilities and communicates students' athletic injuries to Health Services, Orthopedic physician, physical therapist and any other medical professional that may be involved or required
  • Educates and counsels students on athletic injuries and proper nutrition and exercise to help improve overall student health
  • Conducts programs relating to Athletic Training and injury prevention
  • Oversees Athletic Training budget
  • Certifies athletic staff in CPR/AED/First Aid
  • NCAA Speaker/Grant Coordinator
  • Ensure compliance with all College, NCAA Division III and GNAC policies

 

Requirements:            

  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy or Athletic Training; Master's Degree preferred
  • National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) certified
  • Previous Athletic Training experience at college or university level
  • CPR and First Aid or EMT Certification required
  • Licensed athletic trainer in the state of Connecticut.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially, balance and prioritize assignments, manage multiple projects, and problem solve.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills; ability to manage changing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population.
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, negotiation and sales skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision
  • Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to engage positively and work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration and represent the University professionally to the public
  • Commitment to the mission of the University of Saint Joseph
  • Physical ability to perform essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
