Job Summary


Job Summary

  • Serve as a certified athletic trainer including practice, game coverage, and team travel for the Softball team
  • Provide quality care for student-athletes through prevention, evaluation, care, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries and illness
  • Screening and referral of student athletes to team physicians when appropriate
  • Assist with documentation for the Sports Medicine Department, including HealtheAthlete system and following HIPPA guidelines
  • Coordination of drug-testing for Big XII and NCAA which includes scheduling testers and student athletes and ordering supplies

    Travel is required in performance of this position: Travel will be required for off campus athletic events that are covered by the Athletic Training Department. This individual will also travel to meetings and conventions to maintain CEU credit for NATA AND NSCA.

  • Work schedule will vary according to practice and event schedules. These can change depending on availability of facilities and weather changes. Athletic events will take place after business hours, on weekends, and on holidays.
  • Infectious disease, heat, contact with participants such as on the sidelines of a softballl game.
  • Possibility of hot, cold or rainy conditions during athletic events. Noise can also be a factor during athletic events.
  • Able to lift in excess of 100 lbs.
    Extensive amount of time standing each day.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Health/Physical Education, Sports Medicine/Kinesiology, Athletic Training or related field.
  • 2 years of Athletic Training Experience with Division I Athletics.
  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Board of Certification. Must be licensed by the State as an Athletic Trainer.
  • Knowledge of HealtheAthlete Injury Tracking Software
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to interact with diverse department, University and community constituencies
  • Working Knowledge of NCAA Rules and guidelines, especially those explicit to Softball.
  • Ability to direct and perform confidential detailed work with accuracy under deadline pressure
  • Knowledge and understanding of guidelines in the NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA guidelines and universal precautions
  • Must be able to lift in excess of 100 lbs
  • Extensive amount of time standing per day and a willingness to work extended hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to deal with heat and changing weather precautions and ability to direct personnel in case of severe weather
  • Ability to manage and direct multiple personnel and tasks at one time
  • Experience with Drug Testing
  • Experience and knowledge of organizing strength programs, especially for injured student athletes
  • Working knowledge of basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database function.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's in Health/Physical Education or related field.
  • Experience working with Athletic Trainer/Physical Therapist.
  • Additional: Preferred Certification by NASM as PES and/or CES.
  • Experience with aquatic rehabilitation. 
  • Experience with teaching clinical and practice skills in CAHEP approved Athletic Education Program.
