Job Description

  • Responsible for oversight of recruiting, coaching and training student-athletes in the sport of softball.
  • Prepare them for success in competition at the NCAA Division I level and to ensure their satisfactory academic progress through graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Academics
  1. Create and reinforce an environment of academic expectations, achievement, and success that supports and encourages academic progress and graduation.
  2. In a manner consistent with institutional academic integrity, direct all communication concerning student-athletes academics through appropriate administrative and academic lines of communication.
  • Administration
  1. Operate, manage, administer, direct, supervise, promote, and develop the sport program.
  2. Required documents and related administrative responsibilities must be handled in a thorough, complete, and timely manner.
  3. Schedule all competitions for the program in conjunction with the Director of Athletics or designee.
  4. Promote execution of the Athletic Department's strategic plan by adhering to its mission and core values and acting upon its goals and strategies.
  • Budget
  1. Use university resources wisely.
  2. Adhere to university and department fiscal procedures and practices.
  3. Operate within the budgetary allotment allocated by the University.
  • Coaching
  1. Ensure that team members are improving, developing, and progressing as athletes during their collegiate careers.
  2. Position program to achieve competitive goals as established in conjunction with athletics administration.
  • Communication
  1. Maintain effective, proactive, and responsive communication throughout the athletics program.
  2. Emphasizing relationships with sport administrators and support services.
  • Compliance
  1. Operate the sport program with an atmosphere of compliance, integrity, and within the scope and intent of NCAA, conference, and university regulations.
  2. Compliance-related activities and paperwork required of the sport program are the responsibility of the Head Coach.
  • Fundraising
  1. Assist in promoting the University by soliciting and encouraging contributions to and support for the University's Department of Athletics.
  2. Make public appearances as a representative of the sport, the Department, and the University.
  3. Participate in efforts designed to foster increased external participation in, and support for, the Department and the University.
  • Public Relations
  1. Cultivate and maintain effective relations with associations, conferences, alumni, media, civic groups, students, faculty, parents, and friends.
  • Recruiting
  1. Recruit and retain student-athletes who can compete successfully on a level consistent with program expectations and who can be successful in an academic environment and graduate from the University.
  • Role Model
  1. Be a professional representative of the University.
  2. Be a role model for student-athletes, the Department, and the community.
  3. Operate within the rules, regulations, and policies of the University and the Athletics Department.
  • Sportsmanship
  1. Foster a positive environment that encourages and supports sportsmanship, and ensure that public statements are supportive of the University and the Athletics Department.
  • Student-Athlete Development
  1. Contribute to the total development of the student-athletes in the program in a manner consistent with the educational values of the University.
  2. Provide support and assistance to service units and student-athletes with regard to academic progress and graduation.
  • Team Player
  1. Be a positive team player.
  2. Set a positive example for the Department by supporting the mission and philosophy of the Athletics program and the University.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years' experience coaching softball at the collegiate level.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Proven success coaching softball at the NCAA Division I or NCAA Division II level.
