Job Summary

Job Overivew

  • Full-time, 12-month appointment provides an assistant coach for the wrestling program.
  • Assume a coaching role that best fits the philosophy of the program under the direction of the head coach.
  • Primary purpose of this position is to recruit and coach student-athletes, including:
  1. Coaching team practices and competition.
  2. Developing student-athlete skills.
  3. Building understanding of the sport.
  4. Match preparation, strategy, teamwork and conditioning.
  5. Major role is mentoring student-athletes, including academic support and advisement and providing life-skills training.
  • Compliance with University, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations is essential to this position.

Job Description

Primary Duties

  • Coach in areas assigned including coaching all team practices and competition.
  • Assist in developing match preparation and strategy.
  • Recruitment of highly qualified student-athletes.
  • Monitor assigned student-athlete academics, including student-athlete welfare and encouraging academic excellence and eventual graduation.
  • Assist in promoting programs that enhance the wrestling and the athletics programs.
  • Establish and maintain positive community contacts that will enhance wrestling, athletics and the University.
  • Assist with summer camps, where necessary.
  • Assist in conditioning and training of student-athletes in order to develop skill, character and teamwork in wrestling.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited 4-year institution.
  • At least 2 years of successful coaching at the high school or higher level.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful support of student- athletes academic success.
  • Experience with and commitment to working with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited 4-year institution.
  • Successful experience coaching at the college level.
  • Proven success in recruiting NCAA or equivalent qualified student-athletes.
  • Exhibit a knowledge and commitment to abide by institutional, conference and NCAA rules.
  • Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to promote the wrestling and athletics program as well as interact with a variety of individuals in a higher education environment as well as the community.
