Job Summary
Responsibilities include:
- Coach during team/individual practices and competitions
- Independently responsible for managing specific areas of offense and/or defense
- Evaluate participant behavior within team guidelines and expectations
- Formulate and develop practice plans
- Supervise strength training programs and other fitness/health training programs
- Direct areas of competitions
- Lead pre-game warm-up and track opponent information
- Recommend game adjustments/contribute relevant information
- Responsible for the recruitment of athletes who have demonstrated academic and athletic ability
- Identify, analyze and advise had coach of possible recruits for team selection
- Direct recruiting visits and the development of recruiting materials
- Review and update the recruiting process
- Serve as an instructor for HPER classes for the School of Education
- Participate in development activities
- Solicit funds, make presentations, organize and direct fund-raising events
- Promote department by participating in campus and community functions, booster clubs, camps and clinics
- Assist with administrative duties as assigned
- Participate in departmental meetings, etc.
Policies and Procedures:
- Be familiar with and demonstrate the ability to understand all NCAA bylaws, Summit League regulations, and Purdue Fort Wayne academic policies and procedures
- Develop, implement and communicate departmental policies and procedures that reflect said rules
- Subject to NCAA Bylaw 11.2.1, violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations
- Subject to NCAA Bylaw 11.2.2, a written detailed account annually to the Chancellor for all athletically related income and benefits from sources outside the institution is required. All such requests must be approved by the Chancellor.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two years of successful playing or coaching experience at the collegiate level
- Knowledge of fundamentals, techniques, and rules of volleyball
- Ability to work within NCAA rules and regulations
- Ability to effectively communicate with student-athlete, parents, coaches, media, faculty, staff, students and general public
- Ability to recruit under highly selective academic and athletic standards
- Ability to assess athletic skills and instruct athletes in techniques of volleyball
- Ability to develop game strategies
- Must have a valid driver’s license and pass a MVR check as described in the “Use of Vehicles for University Business” policy
- Must be able to organize and instruct health, physical education and recreation (HPER) courses
Preferred:
- Division I coaching, playing, and/or recruiting experience
- Familiarity with high school volleyball programs
