Job Summary


Responsibilities

Responsibility #1
 

  • Organize, teach, direct and advise all practice sessions, condidtioning workouts, events and games for the Cheer Squad, Aggiettes and Big Blue
  • Educate, train and adhere to the safety rules and regulations set forth by the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administration (AACCAA) as well as other industry safety standards, rules, and regulations of the program
  • Maintain knowledge of and uphold NCAA and Mountain West Conference Cheerleading rules and regulations

Responsibility #2

  • Schedule all practice facilities
  • Schedule all appearances for Big Blue and members of the Spirit Squad
  • Prepare game plan for each sport and/or appearance
  • Coordinate halftimes and timeout performances for football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball and gymnastics in conjunction with athletic game management personnel
  • Organize all travel arrangements
  • Work with the Big Blue's on crowd engagement
  • Organize the cleaning and maintenance of Big Blue's costume
  • Edit and prepare all music for performances

Responsibility #3

  • Establish an open, working relationship between students and advisor
  • Develop programs and training that build self-confidence in students
  • Monitor Spirit Squad members grades
  • Assist in coordinating academic support for students who are in need of assistance

Responsibility #4
Recruitment and Personal Development.

  • Publicize, promote and recruit new Spirit Squad members
  • Meet with prospective and current students who have an interest in the Spirit Squad
  • Prepare and coordinate auditions and selection process of new members each year
  • Prepare and direct an annual training workshop for all members
  • Attend a summer camp in order to keep updated with new rules/regulations as well as styles/changes of routines
  • Attend any conference, workshop or classes as determined and approved necessary for job skills or personal development

Responsibility #5

  • Work closely with the Athletic Department in the preparation and needs for each game
  • Coordinate with the Marching Band during football season, and the Pep Band during basketball season for University sanctioned appearances and performances
  • Work closely with the Alumni Association for any Alumni events and appearances
  • Coordinate music with the facilities sound system crews
  • Attend weekly game management meetings
  • Attend, prepare & coordinate pep-rally activities for alumni, community functions and President's activities/events
  • Organize and direct community service appearances for the Spirit Squad for local elementary functions and grand openings for restaurants, stores, Special Olympics, etc.
  • Attend Student Involvement & Leadership Center staff meetings
  • Coordinate with visiting spirit squads to meet their needs and establish an organized working relationship

Responsibility #6

  • Oversee the Spirit Squad budget
  • Review all purchase orders, check requests, and travel authorizations for the Spirit Squad
  • Turn in receipts in a timely manner
  • Research possible outside funding resources for additional scholarships

Responsibility #8

  • Aggie BLUE Leadership Conference
  • SILC Calendar
  • Day on the Quad
  • Help with the Student Involvement and Leadership Centers larger events (HOWL, Mardi Gras and End of the Year Bash)

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior experience owning or managing a dance/cheer program or prior experience coaching a high school dance/cheer team or prior experience coaching a collegiate dance/cheer program
  • Current or recent American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrator (AACCA) certification
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and extended travel trips
  • Technical knowledge of how to properly coach and spot intermediate to advanced tumbling skills
  • Technical knowledge of how to properly coach and spot intermediate to advanced level partner stunting, cheer stunts and pyramids
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in physical education, sports and fitness administration or a related field
  • Collegiate or higher head cheer/dance coaching experience
  • First Aid, CPR, concussion, heat illness prevention, maltreatment training
  • Participation on collegiate dance or cheer program
  • Experience overseeing mascots (i.e. safety, training, costume maintenance, scheduling)
  • Budget development/management experience
  • Experience with fundraising efforts
  • Experience with alumni engagement
