Athletic Director/ PE teacher/ Coach

Job Summary

Responsibilities:

• Plan, organize and oversee a comprehensive sports and physical education program at the school; ensure program objectives mirror the school’s mission, Athletic philosophy and values
• Teaches Physical Education and Wellness classes
• Coaches a minimum of one athletic team for at least one season.  May coach additional teams.
• Negotiate and schedule activities and schedules with sports league officials; attend league meetings as required or as appropriate
• Oversee the establishment of sports and physical education program policies, procedures and curriculum; monitor and adjust as necessary to ensure overall effectiveness
• Coordinate and oversee the recruitment, selection, orientation, supervision, evaluation and development of sport and physical education coaches and trainers
• Work in conjunction with the Director of Finance & Operations to ensure proper maintenance, repairs, staffing levels, travel schedules and the security and safety of students, players and visitors
• Work with the Director of Finance & Operations to plan an effective annual sports and physical education budget
• Oversee the preparation of sports publicity and information materials that enhance participation and accurately inform participants, spectators and the public
• Attends special events, officiates at school events and assemblies
• Builds community among students through presence, interaction in classrooms, teaching, coaching  and organizing activities.
• Ensures a safe environment for faculty, staff and students
• Maintains expertise through Professional Development
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School
• Responsible for paying referees.
• Arranges for yearly maintenance of gym floor.
• Responsible for sound equipment, microphones, and gym set up for shows and events.
• Responsible for coordinating annual Palio show

Experience, Qualification & Attributes:

• Bachelor’s degree
• A minimum of five years teaching and coaching experience, ideally in an independent school environment
• Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with constituents from the entire school community

• Experience with successful athletic programs and teams with experience in gymnastics and dance a PLUS
• Well-rounded knowledge of physical conditioning methods
• A valid First Aid Certificate from the American Red Cross, including CPR training
