Job Summary

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop student athletes to their highest potential both academic and athletic.
• Recruit and enroll qualified student athletes.
• Work with the admissions office and the athletics recruiting coordinator in providing information to any interested prospective student athletes.
• Communicate contacts with prospective student athletes to the Admissions office.
• Advise and direct all squad members, captains, team representatives for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and team managers on all matters concerning their lives as students and athletes at the college.
• Schedule and arrange all practices and competitions.
• Prepare a schedule that complies with department policy, goals and objectives in conjunction with the Director of Athletics.
• Hire, supervise and evaluate all assistant coaches.
• Organize and conduct effective training sessions and contests to improve student athletes' athletic effectiveness.
• Scout and prepare student athletes for opponents through effective game strategies.
• Plan, prepare and conduct alumni events and programs.
• Prepare and submit sport and equipment budget requests for approval prior to purchase as requested by the Director adhering to department and college budget policies.
• Administer the sport budget in a fiscally responsible manner.
• Coordinate team travel, housing and meals for away events with Department administrative assistant; coordinating travel arrangements with the women's basketball coach when necessary
• Submit a travel itinerary for required away contests
• Demonstrate at a high level leadership, sportsmanship, and personal and ethical conduct becoming of the College, the Landmark Conference, the NCAA and the appropriate professional coaching association.
• Annually review and adhere to the NCAA, Landmark Conference, and sport rules and requirements noting any current sport rule changes.
• Communicate and cooperate with the athletic training staff regarding athlete medical clearance, injury prevention, rehabilitation and the status of injured athletes.
• Communicate and cooperate with the SID regarding the promotion of the team and individual student athletes.
• Submit facility, game and practice requests to the Assistant Director of Athletics with facility and time usage request; coordinating your schedule with the head women's basketball coach
• Notify the Athletics office of any roster additions or deletions as soon as possible.
• Assure that all game and practice uniforms, clothing and equipment are issued and returned to the equipment room staff in an appropriate and orderly fashion, and all equipment is inventoried within one week of the last contest.
• Organize and conduct team community service activities each semester

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: Bachelor's degree required, masters preferred
• Experience: At least three years coaching at the intercollegiate level preferred; related coaching experience in other areas/levels considered (directly related business school or college courses may be substituted equally for up to one year's experience); or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Must be detail-oriented and well organized. Strict confidentiality of information pertaining to the office and alumni is essential. Familiarity with word processing systems is essential; familiarity with spreadsheets and database creation and mainte­nance is essential. Previous operational experience with office equipment is essential. Prior experience with budget reconciliation is preferred.
