Job Summary
The fellowship program currently has 14 certified athletic trainers that provide medical coverage for local high schools and colleges. In addition, the fellows have the opportunity to observe with the orthopedic physicians of the renown Hughston Clinic.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Director of Sports Medicine, Head Athletic Trainer, or designee, the Certified Athletic Trainer Graduate Student Assistant is responsible for:
- Recognizing, treating, rehabilitating, and providing emergency care and first aid for injuries and illnesses to intercollegiate student-athletes
- Provide athletic training coverage of practices and games (this may include travel) of assigned sport
- Administers first aid treatment as required by the situation, including life giving first aid, CPR and AED.
- Required to deal with potentially health hazardous situation. (i.e. communicable diseases-colds, flu, AIDS, skin infections, etc.); in case of major emergent injury or illness, refer the student-athlete to the team physician.
- Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess

Required Qualifications
Graduate of a CAATE approved undergraduate or graduate athletic training program; must be able to obtain Georgia Athletic Training State Licensure and meet all requirements for full admission into graduate school.
