Director of Athletic Communications

Job Summary

Position Summary

This position is responsible for leading communications and promotions on behalf of the NCAA Division II athletics program at theUniversity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee external communications efforts for athletic programs

• Budget management and oversight


• Maintain and provide content for athletic department web site and social media outlets


• Supervise staff


• Oversee successful game day operations


• Oversee planning and implementation of game day promotions and events

• Other duties as assigned by director of athletics

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Sports writing skills (game previews/recaps, feature stories, student-athlete award recognition, etc.)


• Knowledge and application of Associated Press writing style


• Graphic design and video editing (Adobe Creative Suite)


• Live, in-game statistician experience in football, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball


• Social media expertise


• Information archival and maintenance of historical records

Minimum Requirements

• B.A. or B.S.


• 3 years of experience in collegiate athletic communications field

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree


• Collegiate athletic communications experience


• 5 years of experience in collegiate athletic communications field


• Stat Crew Software


• Adobe Creative Suite experience

Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands

• Office


• Indoor and outdoor athletic venues


• Regional and national travel required


• Frequently works nights and weekends


• Ability to lift 50 pounds
