POSITION SUMMARY:

The Development Advisor for public projects is a project and account manager, client relationship manager, strategist, and facilitator throughout all of the phases of the sports facility development cycle.  Working within a team and utilizing the tools and resources available through SFA and its partners, the Development Advisor ensures excellent client service and contract fulfilment by leading projects beginning in the planning phase of feasibility & funding and progressing them through engagement of Sports Facilities Development (SFD) and Sports Facilities Management (SFM) services such as venue planning, procurement, pre-opening management, and ongoing operational management. This role will be directly involved in developing, producing, and presenting market opportunity reports, financial forecasts, economic impact analyses, feasibility assessments, and other core services with support from SFA's project managers, business analysts, and market research resources. These tools and resources will be used to educate clients and communities, find solutions for project development, ensure optimal conditions for project financing and long-term operations, and make strategic recommendations for next steps. The Development Advisor for public projects will be expected to manage the work plan and timeline to develop projects in the most efficient, fastest, and most successful way leveraging strategies and partnerships to improve funding and set-up facilities for long-term operational and financial success. 

SFA is seeking an experienced professional with a proven track record in successful public facility development to join our planning, development, and finance services team. This position will focus on SFA's portion of active projects for public clients and/or private clients with the potential for significant public partnership. These projects will span a variety of facility categories and areas of focus such as public, private, local recreation, sports tourism, wellness, events, etc. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in public facility development and/or finance with a proven, successful background in partnership negotiations, public sector presentations, sports/recreation facility development, mixed-use development projects, and/or other related experiences.  While projects may be publicly focused and public-driven, institutional and private sector partnerships are a key strategy and candidates should be able to demonstrate experience in developing and formalizing relationships with these entities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES ARE INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Develop and maintain ideal customer relationships in support of servicing, retaining, and extending client accounts
  • Lead SFA's team of market research resources, business analysts, and project managers through the project specific development of feasibility studies, analysis of findings, and creation of strategic recommendations for client and community decision making
  • Demonstrate exceptional comprehension of SFA's proprietary and detailed system for analyzing market opportunities, determining feasibility, and projecting operational and impact performance of facilities and developments
  • Leverage SFA, SFD, and SFM resources to problem solve, add value, enhance results, and progress projects through the development cycle resulting in future services and engagements.
  • Use the SFA and SFM portfolio and track record combined with project-specific data to establish credibility and demonstrate opportunities for funding and partnerships
  • Represent clients in critical meetings with public officials, bond councils, financial institutions, developers, medical partners, operating partners, program/tournament providers, etc.
  • Create and manage project plans and timelines to set, manage, and exceed client expectations through excellent service, communication, and results
  • Lead or co-facilitate discussions and negotiations related to partnership terms

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of seven years of experience in facility/community master planning, development, strategic advisory/consulting services, professional services, or related field
  • Minimum of bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or related field
  • Proven experience working in the public sector or with public sector clients such as elected officials, park and recreation resources, economic development leaders, bond council members, etc.
  • Prior presentation experience with public sector clients, institutional level decision makers, financing sources  

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Significant travel, up to 80% of the time, throughout the US and limited international travel  
  • Travel-related work conditions will vary by project

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Will be required to sit for extended periods of time operating a computer
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 15 lbs. infrequently
  • Limited exposure to physical risk
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
