About the Role:
The API Engineer role is a full-time position focused on building services that act as a bridge between our media analytics software and our user interfaces. There is additional opportunity to assist with UI development through both individual work and pair programming. The developer will work with a small, highly focused, and collaborative team to build tools and systems to enhance our core UI and provide unique insights for customers and stakeholders.
This role requires an advanced skill set across a variety of technologies. The individual will remain on the cusp of new technologies in the JavaScript space through shared team knowledge and individual study.
What You’ll Do:
· Maintain empathetic and open communication with teammates.
· Write and review testable, scalable code by setting expectations and priorities throughout the development life cycle. Assist in technical design for projects of moderate complexity. Research and implement industry best-practices and trends to ensure the efficacy of architectural direction.
· Build modular, reusable software, with an eye toward future use, scalability, maintainability, and performance. Continuously work to bolster API design and implementation processes to improve quality, efficiency, and predictability.
· Collaborate closely with Design, Engineering, Product, and other stakeholders to understand and drive business requirements and user experience goals. Maintain empathy with the end user, and use that empathy to guide decision-making.
· Actively invest in more junior engineers, teaching both technical and soft skills. Encourage colleagues to strive for excellence in their work.
What Skills & Experience We'd Like You To Have:
· Expert level understanding of Node.js & JavaScript (5+ years experience).
· RESTful API design.
· Experience with any NodeJS API framework (Express, Hapi, Koa, Restify, etc.).
· Understanding of SQL databases and querying them (MySQL, Postgres).
· Experience using CI tools (Gitlab, Jenkins, Circle CI, etc.).
· Experience developing and deploying with containers in cloud services.
· Testing, including unit, integration, performance, and load testing.
It’s A Plus If You Have:
· Knowledge of Typescript is a plus.
· Elasticsearch development experience is a plus.
· Social Media Analytics & API consumption experience is a plus.
