Job Summary

The seasonal community impact assistant (sport participation and growth) is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and progression of youth hockey programs for the Detroit Red Wings. 
Essential Job Functions:
  • Assist in the development, execution, and evaluation of programming and events for Red Wings youth hockey initiatives; Opportunities including but not limited to, Learn, Play, Score, Little Wings, youth camps and clinics, coaching clinics, equipment drives, award nominations and presentations, as well as NHL initiatives and special events.
  • Increase hockey awareness and participation in Michigan by working with USA Hockey, the National Hockey League, the National Hockey League Players Association, and Michigan Amateur Hockey Association.
  • Engage youth athletes and assist in the creation of plans to support the growth of the game
  • Contribute to the creation of innovative solutions to drive participation in youth hockey, including new initiatives such as specialized clinics, coaching symposiums, and a rink partnership program.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of platforms offering resources to youth, parents, coaches, and rink staff
  • Oversight assistance with all aspects of equipment needs and inventory
  • Increase hockey awareness and participation in Michigan through grassroots initiatives, learn to skate, ball hockey, and learn to play programs
  • General correspondences with fans, parents, and youth leagues in response to written and email inquiries
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Ilitch Holdings companies, colleagues, community partners and corporate partners
  • Emphasis on analytic, strategic, communications, and interpersonal skills
  • Communicate and be an advocate for a unified message that will increase brand awareness and recognition of the Detroit Red Wings throughout Michigan and abroad
  • Support the collective community impact group as needed (outreach and engagement / fundraising and development)

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Hockey background
  • Demonstrated high level of communications skills (verbal, written and presentation)
  • Evidence of organization and planning skills and the ability to prioritize multiple events or projects and meet deadlines
  • Evidence of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office suite, database, Internet, etc.)
  • Service oriented; committed to teamwork and catering to the customer
  • Possess the highest integrity and ethical standards
  • Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals
  • Ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience working in the sports and entertainment industry
  • Advanced knowledge of hockey
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work a minimum of 30 hours per week with flexibility for additional hours as needed
  • 2021-22 seasonal role is scheduled to conclude on May 27, 2022
  • Irregular and extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Exposure to moderate - high noise level
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Frequent visual/auditory attention
