Job Summary

This is a full-time athletic department position. Under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations, the Director of Athletic Communications is responsible for home game management, statistical record keeping, media information, and marketing efforts that will enhance the image of the college and are in line with the policies and regulations set by the Board of Trustees and College administration. Newberry College is a private four-year college affiliated with the Lutheran Church and is located in Newberry, South Carolina. It competes as an NCAA Division II institution and is a member of the South Atlantic Conference. The person to fill this position must uphold the ideals and mission of Newberry College. Core job functions: •Any other tasks as assigned by the Director of Athletics, the College President, or the Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations. •Remain current on SACS criteria and ensure compliance in area of control. •Meet goals and objectives as communicated in the College’s Annual Performance Review. •Effective stewardship of the College’s financial resources. •Provide strategic direction to enhance Newberry Athletics’ visibility. •Supervise Athletic Communications Assistants. •Disseminates all information regarding the Athletic Department to the media; newspapers, TV, radio, wire services, College website, and friends of the College. •Responsible for the publicity and promotion of all College Athletic sport programs. •Responsible for the set-up and transmission of all athletic live streaming events and broadcast in keeping with South Atlantic Conference Digital Network requirements. •Oversees the development of promotional brochures, media guides, and schedules for distribution. Specifically, to include game day football programs. •Acts as a liaison between media and Athletic Department staff and student-athletes. •Assist in planning and execution of halftime entertainment at all athletic events. •Coordinates with the ADA-EO the selling of advertisements for publications. •Compile and report all game results to media, post on website, and report to SAC and NCAA. •Maintains Athletic Department website. •Supervises the accommodations of the media personnel at home events. •Arranges team and individual photos, including action photos of events, and maintains files for department use. •Maintains accurate records of team statistics, team records, and individual accomplishments. •Works closely with the College’s Office of Public Relations to properly inform appropriate constituencies. •Assists in general promotion and marketing of special projects, events, and assignments as requested by the Director of Athletics. •Develop, submit to Director of Athletics, and manage annual operating budget for Athletic Communications. •Writes and distributes the “hometown” press releases on student-athletes that are newsworthy. •Manages all departmental social media accounts. •Responsible to report all possible NCAA violations directly to the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and the Director of Athletics. •Responsible to uphold all South Atlantic Conference and NCAA rules in a framework of good ethical conduct; violation may result in disciplinary action and/or termination of employment. •Nominate student-athletes, coaches, administrators, etc. for conference, local, regional, and national awards. •Work in conjunction with the SAC office to coordinate preseason poll and all-conference voting. •Serve as media relations contact or statistician at select SAC Championship events. Bachelor's degree in Media, Communications, Sports Management, or related field required.  Outstanding verbal and written presentation skills.  Knowledge of athletic marketing and publishing.  Ability to work with diverse work force with competing goals and objectives.
