Job Summary

Within the global parameters of the U.S. Paralympics Cycling High Performance strategy and USOC Paralympic Sport Performance priorities, the Associate Director, Paralympic Cycling High Performance will exercise principal leadership in the development and implementation of performance-focused year-round training programs for U.S. Paralympics Cycling programs and athletes. The Associate Director, Paralympic Cycling High Performance will oversee the contract coaching staff pool for monthly, individual coaching of National Team athletes, as well as implementation of training at various sites.

 

In collaboration with the Director, Paralympic Cycling and other U.S. Paralympics Cycling staff, will lead key programmatic activities including race execution strategies at UCI international events. The Associate Director, Paralympic Cycling High Performance will collaborate with the Director, Paralympic Cycling on overall training and racing methodologies for Team USA athletes, including the identification, and coordination of performance services for eligible athletes. The Associate Director, Cycling High Performance will promote and support the Olympic and Paralympic movements and contribute to overall planning, sport planning and implementation of Paralympic Division and USOC organizational priorities.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

 

 

 

1.    Oversee annual and seasonal training plans, as well as daily/weekly workouts for national team, and development athletes as necessary.

2.    In collaboration with contract coaches lead in the development of individual Athlete Performance Plans, and oversee plan implementation.

3.    Lead in the implementation of training camps and maintain relationships with training sites and other partners as relevant.

4.    Collaborate with the Director, Paralympic Cycling and the Associate Director, Paralympic Cycling Operations, to manage performance service requests/availability with athlete schedules to maximize training and recovery.

5.    Collaborate with the Director, Paralympic Cycling and the Associate Director, Paralympic Cycling Operations, to manage the Team USA equipment inventory and satellite service courses.

6.    Track athlete performances, workout data, sport science data, and annual progress reports/graphs as necessary for the program.

7.    Contribute to the annual development of the 4-year rolling high performance plan for the U.S. Paralympics Cycling Program.

8.    Provide leadership and direction to contract coaches and other program staff.

9.    Provide support to athletes at team training, camps, and competitions.

10. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with USOC and NGB staff, with local, regional, and national cycling programs, other partners, and with others in and outside of the cycling community as is beneficial to the program.

11. In collaboration with other Paralympic staff members, contribute to the U.S. Paralympics athlete identification and development strategy. This includes assisting in the creation and implementation of cycling-specific programs within that strategy, utilizing available USOC resources and partnerships with other organizations.  

12. In collaboration with other USOC staff, coordinate and oversee physiological testing, re-tests, data interpretations, program design and periodization models for Team USA athletes.

13. In collaboration with other USOC staff, coordinate and oversee strength and conditioning training for Team USA athletes.

14. In collaboration with other USOC staff, serve as a source of knowledge to elite U.S. athletes and coaches on the latest research and studies in the evaluation of periodization, over-training; workload tracking, ergogenic aids, altitude training, and other relevant sport-specific physiological evaluation.

15. Regular attendance at work is an essential job function.

Minimum Qualifications Required

 

 

 

 

Education:

 

 

 

·        Bachelor degree in Exercise Science or equivalent experience.

 

 

 

 

Licensure & Certification:

 

 

 

·        USA Cycling or equivalent coaching license

·        UCI Director Sportif or Team Support License

 

 

 

 

Experience:

 

 

 

·        Minimum 5 years of experience coaching or directing a cycling team

·        Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience, preferably leading 2 or more coaches or staff

·        Professional experience with Paralympic programs desired

 

 

 

 

Skills:

 

 

 

·        Proven ability to promote sport performance

·        Demonstrated leadership skills, specifically with athletes and staff

·        Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail

·        Excellent written and oral communication skills

·        Strong customer service skills

·        Proven track record of developing athletes who have earned medals at major international competitions
