Job Summary

Position Summary: 


We are looking for an intern to support activation of people with intellectual disabilities in their role as athlete leaders. This paid position requires a highly motivated individual with passion for working with, and advocating for, people with intellectual disabilities. The position is 15-20 hours a week and will support the execution of Special Olympics’ athlete leadership plan.


If we want the world to be inclusive, Special Olympics athletes must contribute in ways beyond the sports field. Athletes must lead the way, educating the world about their potential and driving Special Olympics forward through their insights and contributions. One of the most powerful ways we do this is through expanding the Athlete Leadership program, which creates opportunities for people with ID to develop and demonstrate their abilities and voices in various leadership roles.


Primary Responsibilities: 

  •  Coordinate the receipt and review of 2018-2022 Sargent Shriver International Global Messengers
    (SSIGM) applications
  •  Support activation of the 50th Anniversary Messengers
  •  Provide administrative support to 2018 athlete leadership events including 50th Anniversary in
    Chicago, SSIGM training, and Global Athlete Congress
  • Develop 2014-2018 SSIGM Highlight Report
  • In coordination with athlete leaders, conduct review and provide guidance on current athlete
    leadership curriculum
  • Other duties as assigned by Organizational Excellence team member

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and under pressure while meeting deadlines
  • Think and solve critical issues creatively
  • Curriculum work or related experience in education, communications, or training design
  • Demonstrated ability to manage small to medium projects while working cross-functionally with
    multiple team members
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
