Job Summary

THE JOB / Account Trainee

The Champions for Charity series is an annual, nationwide, grassroots golf program in which our client sponsors charity golf tournaments in their local communities. Since the program’s inception in 1989, our client has sponsored over 4,950 charity golf tournaments and helped raise in excess of $390 million for charitable organizations across the country. 

The ideal account trainee will possess the skills necessary to manage pre-event coordination and on-site implementation of the Champions for Charity sponsorship program. Principal responsibilities will include but are not limited to pre-event, on-site and post-event communication with clients, charity contacts, and golf club/course staff. The following qualities are critical for a candidate to possess in order to ensure success while working on the Champions for Charity program: organization, professional communication (written and verbal), computer proficiency, punctuality, self-motivation, willingness and flexibility to travel and golf knowledge.

There will also be opportunities to contribute to other programs within the Events Division.  Octagon currently owns/operates eight professional golf events on the PGA, LPGA and PGA Tour Champions schedules.  In addition, Octagon is constantly developing events and strategies for our industry leading clientele.  

THE WORK YOU’LL DO 
  • Staff 20-25 charity golf events tentatively between May 1st  and September 30th
  • Ensure that all parties involved (i.e. client, charity, golf course staff, etc.) are aware of the parameters of the program 
  • Ensure proper involvement at each event through successful pre-event organization (i.e. event summary and communication with charity and golf course)
  • Implement sponsorship on-site (i.e. signage, displays, collateral distribution, hole-in-one verification, interaction with players, etc.) 
  • Promote National Championship leading up to the event and while on-site 
  • Solve problems as they arise at each event 
  • Complete all post-event follow-up and evaluation 
  • Data entry of lead generation
  • Organize various administrative functions of the program 
  • Coordinate travel arrangements within specified budget parameters 
  • Be a team player within the staff 
  • Other related duties as reasonably assigned

Qualifications

 
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR 
  • You have a passion for and expertise in sports, entertainment, gaming, music and/or celebrity & lifestyle culture  
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Desire to learn about and work in sports-related career
  • Willingness to travel, as well as weekend work
  • Computer knowledge (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
  • Organizational Skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at one time
  • Ability to maintain control of an event
  • Basic knowledge of event management
  • Knowledge, experience and interest in the game of golf
