Job Summary
The Senior Editor works hand-in-hand with the Editor-in-Chief to execute on the editorial vision for The Active Network’s digital content marketing program for ACTIVEkids.com. The Senior Editor will be responsible for ensuring successful creation of valuable, optimized and relevant high quality content to help attract, nurture and build a repeat relationship with our consumers.
The Senior Editor will manage the day-to-day activities of the Digital Content Editors including content planning, production and publishing activities and is expected to work with the wider Consumer Product team to improve the quality of content and digital services.
Principal Accountabilities:
· Help with the development and oversight of a content strategy for ACTIVEkids.com that builds consumer engagement, creates repeat visitors and drives revenue.
· Manage junior editors and guide their continued professional development.
· Ensure the content team is producing exciting and engaging content.
· Work with digital content editors to optimize content in continuously evolving promotional channels (email, SEO, social media).
· Drive key performance indicators across respective consumer sites, including but not limited to web traffic, native advertising and customer conversion.
· Plan sitewide editorial calendars and work with individual editors to plan channel-specific content.
· Act as a liaison between the analytics manager and the content team, assisting in the continued development of a robust analytics program while helping junior editors digest and use this information effectively.
· Manage the day-to-day of ACTIVEkids.com, including editorial planning, writing and editing and driving performance metrics.
· Liaise with respective product managers to resolve bugs, request new features, etc.
· Support Consumer Team initiatives through content efforts, including new product launches, app development and premium membership programs (in partnership with editor-in-chief).
· Liaise with Social Media Manager to ensure content is optimized and tracked by platform, ensuring best practices and staying current on product features.
· Assist editor-in-chief with native advertising proposals for current and prospective clients (in partnership with the sales team).
· Be a team resource for providing updates on industry trends, platforms and tools that can be utilized across the core content program.
· Understand and execute paid and organic distribution efforts, acting as an advisor to other editors regarding how to optimize content across all outlets.
· Ensure that voice and tone, editorial guidelines and house style writing rules are kept up-to-date and adhered to.
· Strong leadership, top-notch editing skills, written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills are required. · Must be a creative thinker and innovator with tons of ideas for content and ways to motivate creative thinking in others. · Must be an excellent editor with a discerning eye for content that grabs readers’ attention respective to platform. · Must be comfortable receiving and incorporating feedback from leadership. · Should be proficient in creating workflow organization, executing content and digital strategy set out by the editor-in-chief. · Must be adept at managing a team of editors as well as collaborating with product managers, art directors and sales staff.
