TITLE: Signature Events Intern

GOAL/IMPACT

Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) is dedicated to moments such as these, because it is through these moments – and all the moments that lead up to them – that our athletes find strength, success, confidence, and joy. SOSC volunteers help make moments like these. They are on the field guiding the athletes through drills. They are behind the scenes supporting events and people. Development Interns for SOSC signature fundraising events, like Pier del Sol, play an integral role in advancing these efforts through fundraising initiatives that further the mission. This is great for those seeking to gain event planning and fundraising skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary signature event is Pier del Sol, an exciting and unique day of fun on the historic Santa Monica Pier and Pacific Park. At the only culinary festival fused with a backyard private Amusement Park experience, attendees can enjoy an exclusive VIP brunch featuring mouthwatering tastings from over 35 of L.A.’s top Chefs and restaurants, entertainment, music, arts & crafts, games, and unlimited rides at Pacific Park. All proceeds support SOSC. Primary responsibilities for interns are:
· Assist Event Manager with oversight of select planning committee leads
· Coordinate select vendors, pre-event and day-of
· Coordinate athlete guest speakers with Athlete Leadership Manager
· Coordinate select media with food bloggers
· Correspond with participants on pre-event needs
· Coordinate RSVPs to areas/regions
· Assist with event preparation including mailings, name tags and ticket fulfillment
· Support special events department with procuring in-kind goods and services
· Coordinate event supplies and deliveries for various events
· Assist with post-event acknowledgments
· Attend event and assist with other development duties as needed
TRAINING & SUPPORT
· Orientation to SOSC and event history
· Ongoing support from SOSC staff
COMMITMENT & WORKSITE
· This position is ideal for students or professionals seeking or sharing experience/expertise in event management and fundraising
· Service terms are July-October, 15-20 hours a week
· Attendance at Pier del Sol is required – October 14, 2018

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
· At least 18 years old with a government issued ID
· Must have strong computer skills and knowledge of MS Office
· Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
· Must have superior customer service skills
· Seeking energetic and outgoing attitude as you will be calling individuals and companies
· Must have excellent organizational skills
· Self-motivated and work independently
· Ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality
