TITLE: Sports Management Intern
REGION: Orange County

Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) is dedicated to moments such as these, because it is through these moments – and all the moments that lead up to them – that our athletes find strength, success, confidence, and joy. SOSC Sports Management Interns help make moments like these by assisting with the coordination of and delivery of competitions, events, and program. We cannot do it alone. But, together, we can all experience one of the greatest moments in sports. So, step onto the podium with us and try out for your place on the team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provide hands-on support in planning and developing Regional and local sports competitions and programs
· Assist with managing the volunteer and sports training seasons
· Assist with the registration for ‘away’ competitions
· Assist with the recruitment of volunteer coaches and fostering relationships with existing volunteer
· Assist with the delivery of coach education
· Collaborate with school organizations, municipality parks & recreation, and/or other community resources to establish partnerships
TRAINING & SUPPORT
· Direct supervision from SOSC Sports & Programs personnel with weekly meetings and goal setting
· Orientation of SOSC sport rules and regulations
COMMITMENT & WORK SITE
· There are three major sport seasons that require intern assistance:
o February 1 – June 12, 2018
o June 20 – September 2, 2018
o August 1 – November 13, 2018
· Attendance at Spring & Fall Regional games and local/area tournaments (within selected timeframe) is required
· 10-20 hours/week at the OC Regional Office – 2428 N. Grand Avenue, Suite A, Santa Ana CA 92705
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
· Strong organizational and people skills with superb customer service skills
· Ability to work independently and in a team environment
· High proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and the ability to learn new programs
· Must complete a volunteer application, required training, and background check
