Sport Communications Graduate Intern
Grand Valley State University Athletics
The GVSU Athletic Department is searching for qualified, enthusiastic, creative, and driven candidates to serve as a Sport Communications Graduate Intern. This position will receive a tuition waiver upon acceptance into graduate school for up to 9 credits (6 minimum) in the fall and winter semester, and an annual stipend (10 months). It is expected that the selected candidate would hold the position for two years while completing their master’s degree. Start date for this position is August 2nd, 2021 with a strong preference of earlier arrival that will be discussed upon job offer.
Responsibilities:
• Overseeing day-to-day operations for assigned sports
• Content creation on social media pages for assigned sports
• Write, edit and distribute press releases, game programs, and game notes
• Utilize programs such as Photoshop, QuarkXpress, and Statcrew
• Layout and design of media guides
• Updating of the athletic department website
• Other duties as assigned to continue to elevate the department’s mission and goals
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Public Relations or related field
• Strong verbal, written communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated experience with content creation and official social media pages
• Proven working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
• Intermediate experience running statistical programs
• Knowledge of college athletics in general
• Ability to work weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary
