<p><strong>Summary:</strong> <br /><br />The communications department works to promote and publicize the team&rsquo;s on-field successes, as well as the organization&rsquo;s community and business initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Executive Director of Communications, the Coordinator of Communications&nbsp;supports the entire communications department.&nbsp;The Coordinator of Communications is expected to efficiently perform the following duties.<br /><br /><strong>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Monitor and compile daily media clips on weekdays and during weekend homestands</li> <li>Draft press releases and media advisories to garner coverage for community relations, marketing, and baseball efforts</li> <li>Pitch stories to media regarding Nationals events and promotions</li> <li>Create blog posts for Curly W Live, the official blog of the Nationals</li> <li>Build and tailor press lists for media relations efforts</li> <li>Build relationships with key reporters across sports, metro, business, style, etc.</li> <li>Participate in planning sessions and offer ideas that will help tell the broader Nationals story outside of the sport pages</li> <li>Assist with the general business operations of the department</li> <li>Provide general administrative support, such as preparing correspondence, forms and reports, arranging meetings, processing confidential reports and documents, filing electronic and hard copies, tracking deadlines, and taking meeting notes as needed</li> <li>Contribute positively to the department team atmosphere by developing mutually beneficial working relationships with all team members and other departments</li> <li>Participate in and contribute to weekly department meetings</li> <li>Assist in the development and preparation of department presentations</li> <li>Perform other duties as assigned</li> </ul> <p><strong>Requirements: </strong></p> <p><strong><em>Minimum Education and Experience Requirements</em></strong></p> <ul> <li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree</li> <li>Minimum of 2 years of media/public relations experience</li> <li>Strong background in writing and experience working with the media is required for this position</li> </ul> <p><strong><em>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions</em></strong></p> <ul> <li>Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines</li> <li>Strong interpersonal skills, as well as flexibility to accommodate different personalities and professional work styles</li> <li>Excellent writing skills &ndash; writing portfolio will be required</li> <li>Ability to quickly adapt according to business and customer needs</li> <li>Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook</li> <li>Experience working with a media monitoring service, like Critical Mention, is preferred.</li> </ul> <p><strong><em>Physical/Environmental Requirements </em></strong></p> <ul> <li>Office: Working conditions are normal for an office environment, and position will require weekend and/or evening work.</li> </ul> <p><strong>* The Nationals are a military-friendly organization actively recruiting veterans and spouses.</strong></p>
