Job Description
The West Virginia Power are seeking qualified applicants for the Groundskeeper Internship.  The Groundskeeper Intern is responsible for assisting the Head Groundskeeper in the repair and daily maintenance of the Appalachian Power Park playing surface. Our goal is to maintain a safe, first-class playing surface for the West Virginia Power, collegiate and high school games, and other outside events.  This position will be employed from March 1st to Sept 30th, the ability to negotiate the start and finish dates to accommodate schooling schedules.  This is a paid internship.
 
Duties and Responsibilities Summary:

  • Assist in the preparation of the playing field for baseball related and special event activity as well as facilitate the set up/breakdown of all necessary equipment for each.

  • Assist all field prep including, but not limited to: mowing, aeration, topdressing, over-seeding, fertilization, and disease control, edging, mound and plate prep, warning track maintenance, and infield playing surface maintenance.

  • Assist with the infield tarp while monitoring weather conditions to ensure playability and player safety.

  • Perform post-game field and turf maintenance as necessary.

  • Operate and maintain all equipment in a safe manner and keep in excellent working condition.

  • Assist the Operations Department with stadium operation tasks that relate to the general upkeep and cleanliness of Appalachian Power Park.

  • Assist with the scheduling, training, and managing of all part-time, game day field staff and bat boys.

  • Assist in the scheduling, set-up, and tear-down of batting practice equipment

  • Maintain a positive relationship with umpires.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled or completed a certificate program or 2-4 year degree in turf management or related field.

  • Previous experience in a Professional Baseball work environment.

  • Strong organizational skills and a tedious attention to detail.

  • Applicants must have the ability to work nights/weekends.

  • Applicants must have the ability to lift 50+ lbs.

  • Applicants must be able to work in inclement weather.
