Job Summary

The Psychologist/Coordinator of Clinical Services to Student Athletes: (1) performs the duties of a psychologist, providing multi-culturally informed clinical services to Miami University students; training and supervisory services to mental health trainees; and consultation services to faculty, staff, students and parents; (2) provides expert clinical services specifically to meet the needs of student athletes, from a position largely embedded within the Department of Inter-Collegiate Athletics; and (3) coordinates the development and delivery of psycho-educational programming to ICA students, staff, and coaches on topics central to the mental health needs of student athletes following best practice guidelines outlined by the NCAA. “Psychologist” responsibilities: • Provides multi-culturally informed psychological services, including psychological, substance use, and attention problem evaluations, and individual and group counseling and psychotherapy to Miami University students presenting a wide range of mental health concerns, and makes referrals to other specialists as appropriate. • Intervenes in crisis and emergency situations of a mental health nature with students, including after hours on-call responsibilities. • Consults with faculty, staff, students, families, and other professionals regarding the mental health needs of students. • Initiates and responds to requests to provide psycho-educational programming to various groups within the university community. • Provides clinical supervision and training of staff, psychology interns within the SCS APA-accredited psychology internship training program, and other trainees such as doctoral and masters level students from Miami’s APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Training Program, commensurate with the psychologist’s licensure status. • Maintains clinical records and provides clinical documentation and communication with external practitioners as necessary for ethical clinical treatment. • Attends and participates in clinical staff meetings, consultations, and professional development. • Assumes responsibility for other assignments including serving on divisional and university committees. “Coordinator” and Administrative Responsibilities: In collaboration with, and from a position predominantly embedded within, the Department of Inter-Collegiate Athletics, the Coordinator takes a leadership role in envisioning, developing and coordinating the implementation of the clinical, consultative, and programming services of Student Counseling Services to student athletes, staff, and coaches within the ICA. Following the NCAA guidelines for Mental Health Best Practices, the Coordinator also works to maintain currency in the latest trends in the field of sport psychology and keeps the staff of the SCS educated and informed as to best practices in serving the mental health needs of student athletes and the consultative/psycho-educational needs of the staff and coaches of ICA. This psychologist also participates on related Student Affairs, ICA, and University committees.

• The successful candidate will have completed all course work for a doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology prior to the start date from an APA-accredited doctoral training program and completed an APA-approved internship.
• The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest and experience in providing clinical and psycho-educational programming services to student athletes and consultative services to athletic staff and coaches and have a strong understanding of Athletics culture.
• The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to work independently, work well in a team setting, and serve in leadership roles.
• Licensed in Ohio or must be able to obtain Ohio licensure within one year of start date
