Assistant General Manager
Department:                      Baseball Operations
Supervisor:                         General Manager
Classification:                   Full-time (Exempt)
This position will have responsibility in all areas of business operations of the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Double-A Affiliate of the Houston Astros. We are seeking a highly motivated individual that possesses strong oral and written communication skills and is comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This individual will be responsible for multiple sales efforts including sponsorship, tickets, concessions and merchandise as well as the game operations for all home games played at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Essential Duties/Job Requirements:

  • Assist in the management of full-time staff, including hiring, training and professional development of existing and incoming staff members.

  • Assist in the sales and marketing efforts for sponsorship, hospitality, event and ticket sales.

  • Work with the GM and staff to drive operating performance and act as a champion for cost and productivity improvements, with an eye towards growth, strategy and profitability.

  • Assist in the preparation and management of the annual operating budget.

  • Negotiate most favorable pricing for all team contracted services, including a comprehensive media and advertising program with all local and regional media outlets

  • Create and develop new community outreach programs and manage existing programs to continue to enhance the team’s image and presence in the Coastal Bend.

  • Create and maintain a presence in the community through speaking engagements, attending social, business functions, and engaging relationships with key political and business leaders


  • Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA or applicable Master’s degree preferred or equivalent military experience.

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional sports venue management experience.

  • Minimum of 7 years supervisory experience.

  • Baseball experience at major/minor league level a plus.

  • Must possess the capacity to engage in broad, complex and analytical discussions.

  • Superior communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Must possess a strong understanding of the marketplace and consumer demographics.

  • Must possess the ability to transform and align a sports and entertainment driven organization to meet organizational goals.

  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to attract and develop top talent for the organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Directly supervise leadership level staff.
Work Environment
This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers.  The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment. Must have the ability to handle stress in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is a largely sedentary role. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including; extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Occasional overnight, and frequent day travel will be expected in this role.
