Job Summary

Position Summary

An Instructional Specialist is responsible for the supervision of campers and Team members within their Conference, the implementation of Sports Camp curriculum, promoting and actively participating in all camp activities, providing a safe and fun camp environment, and serving as a positive role model for campers and counselors.

 

Position Objective/Purpose

We are seeking motivated team members who believe deeply in the organization’s mission and who display a record of achievement in effective supervision & management of youth, building positive relationships and ensuring the safety and well-being of people of all ages.

 

Position Scope Factors

Instructional Specialists are hired in Sports Camp in the following age groups;

 

Ivy League: 1st grade

Big East: 2nd & 3rd grades

Big Ten: 4th & 5th grades

ACC: 6th + grades

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  1. Group supervision of campers with attention to: behavior and group management, health and safety, security, and personal and skill development
  2. Provide input and assist in conducting mid and end-of-summer team evaluations
  3. Promote and actively participate in all camp activities
  4. Coordinate daily and weekly camp schedule with Sports Camp Director
  5. Lead drills and teach coaches how to run them
  6. Run weekly tournaments for campers
  7. Complete paperwork as assigned
  8. Direct and supervise all sport activities for your Conference
  9. Plan, organize, and instruct the Sport Skills Periods for your Conference
  10. Oversee game periods for your Conference (i.e. start the games, keep the time, referee the games, etc.)
  11. Make sure the athletic area is ready for the next Conference to use after your Conference has finished (i.e. cones are placed back for skills or games, equipment is organized, etc.)
  12. Keep your Conference on schedule and help with transitions
  13. Monitor safety and security of all campers and Team Members
  14. Serve as a positive role model to campers and team members
  15. Follow the ESF Code and maintain the ESF Look at all times
  16. Exhibit ESF Core Values at all times and to adhere to all company policies
  17. Have fun
  18. Other responsibilities as assigned

Experience Requirements

  1. Minimum of one year of post graduate classroom teaching experience or 3 years comparable ESF experience
  2. Previous experience working with children, examples include but are not limited to; babysitting, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant, religious education teacher
  3. Previous camp counselor/teaching  experience (preferred)
  4. Previous experience working with children in a supervisory or administrative capacity
  5. Youth coaching experience (required)
 

Certification Requirements

  1. Physical Education Certification (preferred)
  2. First Aid/CPR (preferred)
 

Education Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree
 

Other Skill Requirements

  1. Outstanding communication skills which include the ability to use clear, concise and grammatically correct written and oral language in all aspects of professional interaction with campers, their families, peers, leadership team and the larger community
 

Reporting Relationships

  1. Reports directly to and takes direction from Sports Camp Director. May also take direction from and is overall accountable to the Site Director.
 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to push/pull, lift and carry a minimum of 35lbs
  2. Endurance to work outside and on your feet for 6-8 hours per day
  3. Ability to respond to emergency situations which may require running (up to 1 mile in some cases) and climbing stairs.
  4. Good physical condition which enables candidate to execute all responsibilities associated with this position
