Job Summary

Position Summary:

This Manger position is the Discipline Manager of Healthy Hearing, Fit Feet and Strong Minds.  The position oversees all event-based and year-round audiology, podiatry and mental health/positive psychology programming for Special Olympics International (SOI).  This position is part of the global Healthy Athletes program, which provides health assessments, education, services, and care at Healthy Athletes events to Special Olympics athletes globally. This position is also responsible for providing technical assistance to the Healthy Communities program, a year-round, community-based health and wellness program that targets athletes, athlete leaders, coaches, families, and community organizations, as well as Special Olympics Programs themselves.

Description:

  • Assume overall responsibility for the management of the Healthy Athletes programs, Healthy Hearing, Fit Feet and Strong Minds, including provision of resource support, consultants activities, protocol and event coordination to support the overall goals and objectives of the department and the growth of each discipline;
  • Manage Healthy Hearing, Fit Feet and Strong Minds events to include:
    • Coordinate local clinic activities and assist with events management at the National and World Games level;
    • Administer the capacity grants program (review, approve and monitor grants and post-event reports) to fund Healthy Hearing, Fit Feet and Strong Minds events;
    • Procure and disseminate equipment and supplies for Healthy Athlete clinics;
    • Facilitate training of new volunteer Clinical Directors and Regional Clinical Advisors;
  • Directly supervise consultants (Global Clinical Advisors - GCAs) who provide clinical expertise to Healthy Hearing, Fit Feet and Strong Minds and identify and partner with additional experts where needed to develop new protocols or programming;
  • Support GCAs in new clinical volunteer trainings, programming and expansion for the audiology, podiatry and mental health/health psychology areas, and updating informational materials and clinical manuals;
  • Serve as point of contact for Programs and local Clinical Directors hosting Healthy Hearing, Fit Feet and Strong Minds screening events to provide fulfillment of supplies and resource materials necessary for the success of the event;
  • Provide resource, logistical and operational support to Healthy Athlete Clinical Directors running events in their local areas;
  • Review and serve as first line of approval for all grant requests from Special Olympics local Programs for funds and resource fulfillment to support audiology, podiatry and mental health/health psychology screening events worldwide;
  • Create and implement, along with the Healthy Athletes team, future training opportunities for new qualified audiology, podiatry and mental health/health psychology professionals around the globe;
  • Bridge the relationship between the SO Program and the trained clinical professional;
  • Share knowledge between Special Olympics and Healthy Athletes Clinical Directors regarding relationships with sponsors, volunteers and allied Health care professionals;
  • Serve as point of contact for all current audiology, podiatry and mental health/health psychology suppliers, partners and sponsors to ensure contractual agreements are maintained;
  • Liaise with potential audiology, podiatry and mental health/health psychology suppliers, partners and sponsors to steward and develop new relationships;
  • Prepare informational materials to potential suppliers and donors;
  • Liaise with fulfillment and storage warehouses and companies that donate the necessary supplies for each athlete screening;
  • Liaise with Special Olympics Regional Healthy Athletes Managers on emerging Global Healthy Athletes Programs providing technical assistance and resource support; and
  • Provide expertise and technical assistance in support of the new Healthy Communities program, including identification and review of existing programming, materials development, and provision of technical assistance that is evidence-based and will maximize outcomes. Manage or support programs that integrate health with other departments, including family health forums, Athlete Leadership Programs, and coach health education.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or in a relevant discipline (e.g. audiology, speech language, podiatry, psychology, adapted physical education, administration, project management, international development, international business) with at least 3 years of experience in the field of public health;
  • 3-5years of demonstrated experience in program development and/or management, ideally with a focus on improving health outcomes;
  • Proven track record in creating strategies, planning programming, and setting and delivering on targets, preferably cross-culturally;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including a demonstrated ability to build and maintain networks, provide advice and communicate effectively with a culturally and professionally diverse range of stakeholders;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel; and
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision and exercise judgment to identify solutions and strategies for novel situations.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • MPH or other graduate degree in a relevant field;
  • Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities;
  • Advanced knowledge of and professional experience of audiology, podiatry and/or mental health/health psychology  including an understanding of the main health systems challenges in a resource poor setting;
  • Successful experience cultivating, securing, and stewarding partners and sponsors; and
  • Additional language skills.
