Populous is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and team-oriented Project Manager for our New York office.

The New York office opened in early 2016.  The office is located at 475 Fifth Avenue at the corner of 41st Street, in the heart of midtown and across the street from the New York Public Library and Bryant Park.  The office is focusing on a wide range of project types and services including sports and entertainment venues, theatre and performing arts, aviation, convention centers, hospitality, mixed-use projects and interior design. It is an office founded on critical thinking and an ability to leverage digital technologies in service of exceptional design.  Populous New York is a dynamic and growing group with a wide-range of skills and experience.

Your responsibilities…
  • Responsible for managing project budget, work plans, consultants and schedule. Communicates key deliverable dates to project team. Tracks fees and labor costs for conformance to contract.
  • Prepares and executes subcontracts for consultants and is responsible for monitoring consultant scope with the Owner.
  • Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Prepares fee proposals including work plans identifying scope. Negotiates the contract for new work based on this work plan in conjunction with Principal in Charge.
  • Fosters and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the Project Leadership Team (i.e. Project Designer, Project Architect, and Principal in Charge).
  • Exercises authority over day-to-day activity of assigned projects.
  • Fosters on-going communication through team meetings, generation of meeting minutes, and up-date memos to project team including consultants.
  • Ensures project documentation and contracts are in compliance with the standards set forth by Populous policy.
  • Provides office leadership including professional development coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Defines staff requirements for projects as needed or directed. May make recommendations to senior management for staff promotions/terminations. May participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff.
  • Contribute to architectural design development, drawings, in support of overall project goals when requested and directed by the Principal in Charge.
Our requirements… 
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited program or equivalent in education or experience.
  • 5-10 years of experience in architectural practice with prior management experience in all phases of projects.
  • Project Management experience with sports and entertainment projects, performing arts, convention centers, hospitality, and aviation a strong plus.
  • Understanding of architectural modeling, parametric design, advanced project delivery methods and drawing software and production.
  • Registered Architect with current license is required.
  • NCARB registration preferred.
  • LEED Accreditation not required, but a plus.
  • Strong relationship-building and problem solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of design, construction methodologies and material application.
  • Knowledge of architectural building systems.
  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets with an interest in financial management a must.
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple small to large scale projects of complex scope.
