Job Summary

Special Olympics Inc. is seeking an energetic, creative, and solution-oriented individual to fill the position of Manager of Inclusive Health.

Special Olympics Inc. (SOI) is an international NGO providing sports training and competition to more than 4.5 million people with intellectual disabilities (ID) in 170 countries. With the support of almost 1.5 million coaches and volunteers, Special Olympics delivers 33 Olympic-type sports and more than 94,339 games and competitions throughout the year. In addition to sports programming, Special Olympics offers a number of supporting initiatives and programs, including Special Olympics Healthy Athletes and Healthy Communities. The 2016-2020 strategic priorities for the health program focus on growing an inclusive health movement and creating a tipping point across countries where government funding and policies, medical and allied health professions training program curricula, and health care and wellness services are all inclusive for people with ID.

The position of manager of will report to the Director of Inclusive Health and will support the expansion and management of inclusive health programming for people with ID in the United States. Inclusive Health is the inclusion of people with ID in mainstream health policies and laws, programming, and services, training programs, research and funding streams. The vision of inclusive health is that all people, regardless of ability or disability, have the same opportunities to be healthy. The body of work includes three key components: partnership engagement, resource development, and event planning.


Primary Responsibilities
 Support project management and coordination of Special Olympics inclusive health work in the United States
 Managing the development of key inclusive health resources and the development of the web-based platform that will house the resources. Specifics include:
 Working with and coordinating efforts of internal and external partners/consultants to develop inclusive health resources, including case studies and toolkits on inclusive health.
 Leading the development of the web-based platform to include management of vendors as well as gathering input on the vision and generating and sharing creative ideas on creating the look of the resource platform.
 Establishing scopes of work for resource development partners/consultants, creating project plans, and tracking deliverables
 Supporting the planning and managing logistics of inclusive health events, including the high profile event on June 30, 2018 in Seattle, Washington. This includes management of consultant(s) engaged for event planning.
 Supporting management and execution of the inclusive health communications strategy, including managing of bimonthly newsletter and coordinating bimonthly webinars.
 Cultivation of relationships with existing and new organizations in the inclusive health space.
 Supporting the development and management of inclusive health grants, including scheduling and logistics for in person and virtual meetings, as applicable.
 Project management and coordination of Inclusive Health sub-awards, including American Association of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD), vendors, and consultants.
 Establish scopes of work, create project plans, and track deliverables
 Manage logistics for internal and external meetings
 Ensure implementation is in compliance with the planned strategy and activities and achieves the outlined targets, including development of training curricula, planning and conducting of training institutes and stakeholder analyses, engagement of universities around curriculum change, and support of monitoring and evaluation.
 Support strategic planning, as led by the Director of Inclusive Health, including partnership development and budget management, for this inclusive health strategy.
 Liaise with different Special Olympics departments, such as Global Development, Government Relations, Development, and Communications, on this inclusive health strategy.
 Support other department work, such as: Pursuing new ways to build departmental capacity, including identifying and pursuing new sources of funding and identifying and cultivating new partners.
 Supporting proposals and reports to funders and partners.
 Developing information in response to requests from other SOI Departments, Regions and Programs. 

Required Qualifications: 
 BA/BS degree in public health, public policy, or related field preferred, and 3 years applicable work experience (or equivalent combination of coursework and work experience) required
 Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including the ability to communicate effectively with a culturally and professionally diverse range of stakeholders
 Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines concurrently
 Experience crafting a range of communication documents, including issue briefs, thought pieces, and management documents.
 Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
 Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint
 Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills
 Willingness and ability to travel independently

Desired Qualifications: 
 Master’s degree in public health, public policy, or related field preferred
 Experience managing and coordinating organizational partners
 Experience managing vendors, contracts, and/or external consultants.
 Experience in event planning
 Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities
