Job Summary

Overview

Responsible for overall management, promotion, and operation of two facilities, including purchasing, policy formulation, booking, marketing, finance, food and beverage, box office, advertising, security, production, maintenance, and related operations. Provides direction to each department as needed, through each department’s director.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage Sales, Marketing, Building Operations, Event and Ticketing Services, Security, Finance/Administration, Food & Beverage, and Parking for the Convention Center.
  • Develop relationships and interact with service providers, clients and promoters
  • Pursue and create programming and booking opportunities at both Convention center and arena properties.
  • Provide cost analysis for operations as it relates to facility management
  • Manage capital projects and coordinate efforts to reduce costs
  • Actively pursue new business and sponsorship opportunities
  • Develop and implement sales and marketing programs
  • Stays on top of trends and practices that provide efficiency to the overall venue
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Essential Job Functions:

  • Taking an active role in preparing the Annual Plan and Budget
  • Preparing monthly projections
  • Reviewing operating and capital budgets and finances
  • Communicate any legal issues swiftly to Corporate legal
  • Set SMART goals for myself and the team
  • Reviewing Pace Reports and forecasting revenue and expenses
  • Having monthly Finance Calls with Corporate
  • Plan, direct and evaluate the work of subordinates
  • Provide leadership for all personnel
  • Analyze challenges, identify alternative solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions    
  • Implement plans to support overall organizational objectives
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors and facility users
  • Complete all duties with a customer service focus through teamwork
  • Review as needed the advancement of events/shows, preparation of the building
  • Participate in other team meetings as available
  • Review and assist as needed with the completion of post-show event settlements
  • Investigate and resolve complaints in a professional manner ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Communicate with Contract Client on weekly basis
  • Assure review of emergency planning procedures
  • Remain involved and participate with the community
 

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in Business/Hospitality Management or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Min. 5 years management experience in Convention Center, Arena or Hotel
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of facility operations, budget preparation and personnel management
  • Ability to apply conflict resolution and problem-solving skills in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to express ideas clearly in both oral and written communication
  • Superior Sales and Marketing skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and general computer skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid drivers’ license

Intellectual/Social demands:

  • While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits.
  • Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards
  • Employees in this role will constantly be in leadership role; this requires directing others either verbally or in writing to complete tasks in prescribed time frame.
  • This position also requires constant use of interpersonal skills including: ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, being able to recognize and resolve conflicts, being able to openly communicate in writing and verbally with clients.

Physical demands:

  • While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee constantly operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, etc;
  • Employee must be able to move around the venue to both prior to, during and after events to provide feedback to staff.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, climb stairs and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.

Work environment:

  • The duties of this position are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time.
  • The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud during events and minimal during non-even times.
  • Work schedules will be very flexible, including long nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays as needed
