Job Summary

JOB MISSION:

As a Junior Copywriter you will work directly with Copywriters / Lead Copywriters
on our Global Marketing Team writing copy for websites, landing pages, retail, and other digital marketing mediums. You’ll be responsible for generating Apparel, Footwear, and Accessory product descriptions and supporting copy for US and global customers across many platforms, including:

  • Websites, landing pages, mobile apps, emails, social media
  • In-store Communications materials
  • Marketing materials

You will be expected to work with a passion for writing and a desire to expand and improve your writing skills. You will need to use your creative instincts to develop engaging concepts to fulfill client expectations. You will be writing as many as 80 sets of apparel, footwear and accessory product descriptions for New Balance and ecommerce wholesale sites, per week.

This role involves using feedback from colleagues to sharpen your writing skills and create finished pieces that resonate, attract and persuade customers to buy. You’ll work alongside designers, operations and GBU marketers on projects and will be encouraged to think outside the box while gaining confidence in your decision-making and copywriting capabilities.  You must be a team player and self-sufficient multi-tasker.

The copy you create needs to be interesting for the reader/consumer, whilst adhering to the objectives of the project. Your content will stay true to the New Balance brand & style, closely following guidelines presented via client brief, and adhering to accepted grammatical and linguistic standards.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Meeting with product managers to learn about new styles, features & benefits
  • Understanding the messaging the client is seeking to deliver and translating it into attractive copy
  • Writing perfect, mistake-free copy that will engage the reader
  • Receiving feedback and using it to grow and improve as a copywriter
  • Understanding client specifications to craft copy that is on-brand
  • Keeping copy consistent and identifiable for each client
  • Producing creative ideas for innovative campaigns
  • Working closely with the Creative Operations Team to follow copy workflow and timelines
  • Routing copy to Product Managers and the legal team for review
  • Following up with Product Managers and the legal team for additional feedback / clarity as needed.  Modifying copy to get legal approval

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS

  • BA in English, Advertising or Marketing preferred
  • At least 1 year writing experience at an advertising or in-house creative agency
  • Experience writing for ecommerce & retail channels for a major retail brand
  • Familiarity with SEO (search engine optimization) best practices and writing SEO-focused content
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing, media and leveraging customer personas
  • Experience in writing strong, succinct copy that is grammatically correct
  • Retail and digital copywriting experience preferred

  • Ability to build client / Product Manager / Product Designer rapport and nurture good working relationships across teams at NB

Note: Project demands usually allow the NB creative team to work regular office hours. However, there is occasionally the need to be available early or late in the day for client changes / deadlines.
