Job Summary

The Middle Atlantic Section of The PGA of America (MAPGA) is offering four (4) three month internships with the MAPGA Junior Golf Department.  The MAPGA is the sixth largest of the 41 sections in The PGA of America with over 1,100 members and apprentices.  The Section is comprised of PGA professionals in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.  The intern will report to the Junior Golf Director and assist in conducting approximately 40 golf tournaments and other junior golf activities.

 

TIME PERIOD:

 

 

May-August, 2019 (3 months)                                              

 

COMPENSATION       $1,200 per month

 

Complimentary housing at MAPGA Headquarters (includes living area, kitchen, and single occupancy bedrooms) with all utilities included

 

                                    All travel expenses (meals, lodging, and mileage) covered by the MAPGA

 

Complimentary access to golf and practice facilities at local courses

 

DUTIES/JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Interns will learn everything that is involved with conducting a golf tournament, as well as golf administration.  Some of the duties and responsibilities include:

·         On-course rules officiating

·         Tournament administration and preparation, including golf course setup

·         Starting and scoring of players

·         Media and public relations, including tournament promotion

·         Equipment inventory, maintenance and replenishment

·         Public speaking

·         Other duties as needed to support the Section

·         Player Development and MAPGA Foundation assistance

·         Website Maintenance and updates

·         Press releases and social media of all kinds

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:                    

·         Strong interpersonal skills

·         Ability to work and communicate in a team environment

·         Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal

·         Well organized, punctual, energetic, innovative and a “self‑starter”

·         Excellent computer skills

·         Strong work ethic

·         Physical stamina, ability to drive 2-5 hours at a time, and the ability to lift heavy objects

 

·         Experience in Golf preferred, but not required
