Job Summary
Brief Description of Duties
The incumbent functions as Assistant Athletics Director for Communication in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Assistant Director for Communication is responsible for management of department communications, marketing and promotions, public relations, press box operations and maintenance of statistics and productions. The incumbent reports to the Director of Athletics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains relationships with appropriate local, state and national media representatives.
- Coordinates the writing, editing and distribution of sports information in the form of releases, schedules, media guides, game programs, interviews, etc.
- Maintains athletics web site and related social media platforms
- Coordinates live stream functions for home contests (soccer, basketball, lacrosse)
- Promotes athletics events including contests, student-athlete recognition, awards presentations, Hall of Fame
- Directs the operations of basketball, lacrosse, soccer press row and press facilities at other athletic events including compiling team and individual statistics and issuance of working press credentials.
- Supervises statistical crew, announcers, photographers, film crew and related home game day workers
- Travels with athletic teams when media interests warrants.
- Serves as host for the visiting media.
- Represents the university at the Sports Information Directors Association and other media meetings.
- Responsible for distribution of media credentials, pass lists and tickets.
- Ensures proper maintenance of present and historical sports files.
- Supervises publicity releases on all student athletes and coaches and athletics staff
Other Duties
- Produces athletic brochures, programs and media guides of all sports programs.
- Represents athletic department on university wide communications team
- Serves as liaison with University television staff
- Coordinates student-athlete team, conference and national awards
- Coordinates student-athlete advisory committee meetings and activities
- Assists with implementation of student-athlete community engagement activities and student-athlete development programs
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- Administrative or coaching experience in intercollegiate athletics
- Proficiency using desk top publishing, photo shop, excel, Adobe acrobat, video editing and stat crew software
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent editing skills
- Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
