Job Summary

 Responsibilities

  • Be an integral part of the Baseball Communications Staff, including working collaboratively, contributing ideas and suggestions to the department and creating content for fans and media partners (print, radio, TV, online and social media)
  • Develop strong relationships with staff, players, local/regional/national media
  • Manage and oversee the credential application process and distribution
  • Identify, hire, train and supervise seasonal interns
  • Manage the press box operations, ensuring that the media has all the information they need
  • Facilitate local and national media requests for information, doing independent research, as necessary
  • Ensure coverage of Baseball (home and road / Major League and minor league), including facilitating interviews for print, radio and television media with staff and players
  • Identify and facilitate coverage of Baseball and storylines at Spring Training
  • Create compelling content for Magazine and other Publications
  • Produce portions of the Media Guide, including meeting deadlines, writing biographies of players and staff, copy editing, managing to budget and developing page plans
  • Write and distribute daily Game Notes and News Releases
  • Assist with pre- and post-game in the clubhouse, minor league report, clips
  • Identify and exploit A’s public relations opportunities and identifying PR challenges

Qualifications/Requirements
 

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Communications, Business Administration, Sports Management or related field
  • Fluent in Spanish is strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in sports information considered a plus
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of integrity; takes personal responsibility for getting things done in a way that positively and professionally represents the organization
  • Must be creative, with demonstrated experience creating new, compelling content for use in a variety of delivery systems (including, but not limited to, game notes and social media)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; communicates clearly, respectfully, and in a manner appropriate for the audience
  • Possess demonstrated writing and editing skills
  • Multi-task oriented; must be able to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with MLB Stats system
  • Understanding and experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign & Photoshop and Wordpress
  • Highly knowledgeable in baseball statistics, terminology and rules
  • Demonstrated ability to work demanding MLB Baseball schedule, including nights and weekends (home and potentially, away games) and Spring Training
