Job Summary

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Head Men's Wrestling Coach  provides overall leadership of the program and sustains a dynamic team program where student-athletes demonstrate exceptional skills while being fully committed to the mission and goals of the university and adhering to all rules and regulations of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC). In addition, the head men's volleyball coach will be responsible for other duties at the institution, as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops a strong team culture to reflect the mission of  University, and readily demonstrates the ability to meet student development goals, Athletics Department objectives, and competitive success.
  • Use sport-specific knowledge, training techniques, and leadership skills to implement a competitively excellent men's volleyball team.
  • Has demonstrated values that align with the university mission; which promotes holistic growth, community service, and overall spiritual growth of the student.
  • Monitors academic progress and builds a program that results in high retention and graduation rates while helping the student body enthusiastically embrace and support the team and its activities.

Recruiting:

Work closely with the Department of Admissions on the recruitment of all Prospective Student-Athletes.

    • Has a strong understanding of and adheres to all university, NAIA, and GSAC recruiting policies and procedures.
    • Focused recruiting efforts towards signing student-athletes who are a mission fit based on lifestyle standards, academic expectations, commitment to graduation and enhancing the VU brand.
    • Facilitate the provision of all information necessary to determine prospective student-athlete eligibility.
    • Reaches minimum roster goals as defined by the Athletics Department and University.
  • Builds a collegial environment in decision-making and administrative effectiveness throughout the University campus and within the Athletics Department staff.
  • Builds and maintains the program budget under the guidance of the Athletics Department administration.
  • Actively engages in opportunities to enhance the team and the department through utilization of the University Invest in Gold program, with specific annual targets each year for supplemental funds to be raised.
  • Responsible for working with the Director of Athletics and the Department of University Advancement to build significant relationships with community, alumni, and potential donors for the program.
  • Commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of the department, the University, the NAIA, and the Golden State Athletic Conference.
  • Identify risks to the organization within the department and discuss risk reduction options with immediate supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred. 3-5 years of successful coaching experience at the college and/or high school level. Collegiate playing experience a plus.
  • Strong recruiting skills and connections within the men's volleyball community.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor with internal and external publics.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize diverse and specialized details and tasks.
  • Ability to be flexible to changing conditions, needs, and job responsibilities.
  • A strong interest in mentoring intercollegiate athletes spiritually, academically, and athletically.
  • An understanding and sensitivity to FERPA laws as it pertains to student-athletes.
  • Working knowledge of NAIA, GSAC and University requirements.
  • Knowledge and acceptance of faith-based principles and philosophies of University.

SALARY:

Full-time position consideration, 12-Month Position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and includes a generous benefits package.
