The mission of Intercollegiate Athletics is to facilitate and enrich the education and personal growth of its students through their participation in competitive NCAA Division I athletics.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the overall management of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Events Center.
- The Director ensures that the management of those areas is consistent with the goals and objectives of the university.
- The Director is directly accountable to the Chancellor on policy matters pertaining to the National Collegiate Athletics Association and Big West Conference.
SERVE AS THE EXTERNAL FACE OF ATHLETICS:
Working with the Executive Director of Development for Athletics and in coordination with the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement and Alumni Relations, the Director of Athletics is responsible for setting priorities and leading fundraising efforts through individual giving, corporate sponsorships, and philanthropic partnerships.
Engages with external constituents and alumni, coordinates development efforts with the Vice Chancellor for Advancement, attends social functions in the regional community to expand financial support for Athletics from extramural sources.
POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND PLANNING:
Directs the operational aspects of intercollegiate programs including administration, staff, organization, facilities, systems and policy.
The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics is the chief administrator for the University's intercollegiate athletics program, responsible for establishing policies and procedures that achieve the parallel goals of development of quality, competitive athletics teams and support of the individual educational goals of student-athletes; ensuring University compliance with applicable National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), athletic conferences and University rules and regulations; supervising a staff of athletic coaches, professional and support personnel, developing and managing operating budgets for the intercollegiate athletics program, and participating in fund- raising activities as appropriate.
Develops department policies and procedures to support operational objectives. Serves on external NCAA committees and work groups involved in policy setting for athletic programs in higher education.
Facilitates discussions, development and evaluation of goals and strategic plans.
