Job Summary
POSITION SUMMARY The purpose of this position is to manage all aspects of operations for the first team included but not limited to team travel, team budgeting, player relocation, player appearances and communication between Sporting, Front Office and MLS personnel.
The Senior Manager also has direct management responsibility for the equipment staff and the Assistant Manager-Team Operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Required to perform the job)
- Act as supportive and inspirational leader to direct reports
- Set schedule for staff paid on an hourly basis, approve hours worked and closely monitor hours to manage overtime per established budget
- Provide direct, timely and constructive feedback
- Support and advise regarding professional development
TEAM SERVICES
- Responsible for onboarding all new players ensuring a smooth transition into the Club including relocation, housing, travel and securing visas as needed
- Develop and manage player/family onboarding program
- Act as liaison to player’s families, agents and VIP guests on gameday including control and distribution of comp tickets/gameday credentials
- Partner with Community Relations to schedule player appearances and autograph signings. Accompany as needed.
- Support the Sporting Director and Head Coach with administrative functions to ensure all needs are met
- Manage food services with catering providers at training facility and matchday meals.
TEAM TRAVEL
- Responsible for organizing all team travel including ground transportation, flights, hotel and team meals negotiating most favorable rates within established budget
- Coordinate all logistics upon arrival at each hotel and act as on-site contact
- Manage and distribute per diem to all in travel party
- Coordinate all logistics for pre-season training which includes securing location and negotiating contracts with hotel
- RBII Management
- Primary party responsible for ensuring enforcement of guidelines pertaining to RBII player housing
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities
- Professional, motivated self-starter, high energy
- Fluency in English required, Spanish strongly preferred
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop strong relationships with multiple stakeholders
- Strong customer service skills
- Must be extremely detail-oriented, well organized with strong follow-up skills and the ability to multitask
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful circumstances
- Demonstrated excellence in problem-solving
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Sports Management or Business Management
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of five years of overall team management experience in a professional sports or college athletics setting including two years direct staff management
- Due to the cyclical nature of the entertainment industry, the employee may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the company.
