Job Summary
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Head Spirit Team Coach at Cameron University, an NCAA Division II institution in the Conference, is a highly responsible and demanding position. The University has a winning tradition in athletics and is strongly supported be the local community. The Head Spirit Team Coach position represents .50 (FTE) and is a part time, 12 month job assignment. All members of the Athletic Staff are expected to be team players supporting each other while promoting the mission of the University, supporting the philosophy of the Athletic Department, and assuring the well-being of all student athletes. The Head Spirit Team Coach will be responsible for the development and implementation of a high-quality collegiate athletic program, which is in conformity with NCAA conference and university rules, regulations and policies.
JOB DUTIES:
- The successful candidate will be responsible for coaching the cheer squad, dance team, and mascots at Cameron University (practice, game day, and competition), monitoring study hall, fundraising, recruiting, community relations, academic progress of the student athletes, and other administrative tasks as assigned by the Athletic Director.
- Schedule practices, attends home events including but not limited to basketball and volleyball, participate in special events such as pep rallies and booster functions, attend summer camp with the team, and assists in scheduling and coordinating tryouts.
- Responsible for communicating with game day manager to support and promote game day experience, fundraising activities, and other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
SUPERVISION: The position will work under the supervision of the Athletic Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of and experience with cheer/dance techniques and positive game environments with the ability to choreograph
- Ability to create team chemistry and be able to handle the daily challenges of being a spirit coach
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational and management ability
- Strong work ethic with a team player’s positive attitude
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Earned Bachelor’s Degree
- College, graduate assistant or high school coaching experience
