Job Summary

Duties:

  • Provide leadership, management, planning and administration over the day-to-day operations of the Intercollegiate Athletics Program, including hiring and supervising of staff, and program expenses; manage, oversee and monitor the budget for the Intercollegiate Athletic Program and work directly with the Director of Finance in implementing the budget for the program; propose yearly budget to the Vice-Chancellor
  • Provide leadership and oversight of all head and assistant coaches
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and evaluation of staff responsible for marketing and promotion of athletic events and marketing materials; approve all marketing and promotional materials and allocate budget for each area
  • Assist in the development of marketing and promotional planning, in conjunction with University Advancement and Communications; in collaboration with the Sports Information Director and Marketing and Promotions Coordinator, oversee the preparation of press releases and the arrangement of media coverage for athletic events and ensure that the appropriate media is informed of the results of all athletic events
  • Directly supervise, manage, and evaluate the daily operations and staff of the facilities component of the Division
  • Oversee all aspects of the Clark Athletic Center along with coordination of other off-campus facility sites, including budget management, and capital project supervision; provide leadership and supervision of staff responsible for the operation of the concession stand that is open for all home events
  • Oversee budget allocation, monitor student-athlete workers and provide oversight of inventory and supplies
  • Implement and oversee contracts specific to the Intercollegiate Athletics Program;
  • Negotiate terms with prospective vendors; prepare bid documents, in conjunction with Business Manager
  • Monitor and coordinate product ordering; deliver and handle all reconciliations, and serve as liaison and point person for UMB athletics with the vendor
  • Assist the Vice Chancellor in the development of the strategic plan for the Intercollegiate Athletic Program, as well as providing on-going vision and strategies to ensure its success; monitor, implement and evaluate programmatic and operational effectiveness of the Program and make regular and daily operational and managerial adjustments/changes when necessary
  • Work directly with senior leadership and the Vice-Chancellor on major operational and managerial adjustments/changes that have great impact division-wide
  • Establish collaborative inter-departmental relationships in order to recruit and retain students, develop alumni and foster student engagement and success and to support and encourage communication between departments
  • Meet on a regular basis with various university departments to ensure that student-athletes receive needed intervention, assistance and advising in a timely manner and in accordance and compliance with all University, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Conference rules and regulations; work with and serve as the point person for Student Affairs regarding student-athlete disciplinary problems and judicial matters
  • Other duties are assigned.
  • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, sports administration and/or management or a closely related field and a minimum of ten (10) years of experience at the NCAA Division III level and a demonstrated; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Commitment to the philosophy and mission of Division III institutions
  • Experience in hiring, supervising and managing staff
  • Collegiate administrative or coaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and affiliated conference regulations
  • Knowledge of recruitment and admissions process
  • Experience with budget management
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong commitment to customer and student service
