Sailing Team Coach

Job Summary

Preferred Experience:

• Experience in Laser and Keelboat sailing and racing
• Background in competitive sailing specifically regarding dinghy racing
• Experience in race management including but not limited to course management, scoring, protests, etc.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent organization, communication, and team management skills
• Capable of standard boat maintenance and upkeep
• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience coaching at the high school and/or college level
• Microsoft office, and computer skills

Job Responsibilities

60%: Coaching

• Serve as the direct authority on a nightly basis for team activities
• Charged with coaching team in major regattas and practices
• Work with club student leadership for coordinating practice, regattas, travel, and logistics
• Work in conjunction with Campus Recreation for the overall administration of the team.
• Drives University vehicle and/or private vehicle to events as needed.

35%: Maintenance and Safety

• Responsible for teaching and enforcing proper care and storage of all equipment and boats
• Adhere and enforce all guidelines and policies regarding risk management and safety per the Sailing Operations Manual
• Assist in pre-season setup and maintenance of boats and equipment

5%: Other Duties

Performs other duties as assigned.
