Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Serving as the primary PE teacher, which requires teaching PE Classes to sixth through tenth grade.
  • Providing all aspects of the PE curriculum and program planning.
  • Fostering a classroom environment that promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body/mental/emotional function and exercise.
  • Creating a learning experience that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness and appropriate social and emotional adjustment.
  • Discovering and developing talents of students in physical achievement that develops strength, skill agility, poise, and coordination in accordance with each student’s ability.
  • Communicating effectively with Athletic Director.
  • Coaching one sport per season as needed.
  • Working as a team with other teachers in the department, including sharing space & equipment.
  • Participating in gym, fitness center and locker room supervision.
  • Committing to professional growth to enhance student learning.
  • Actively committing to enhancing a school community through involvement on committees and student life activities.
  • Effectively and consistently communicating and interacting with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Providing an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of young women.
  • Maintaining appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. 
  • Integrating the use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. 
  • Assisting with all aspects of the middle school athletic program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree - M.A. or M.S. in Education or Teaching with teaching experience in various levels of secondary education 6-12.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • MSDE certification preferred.
  • Ability to connect the curriculum to real-world scenarios and student background knowledge.
  • Coaching experience.
  • Commitment to embrace the school’s mission and values.
  • Genuine enthusiasm, personal warmth and passion for teaching and inspiring a love of learning.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with administration, faculty, and parents.
  • Experience using a variety of pedagogical strategies.
  • Enjoys working collaboratively to develop and plan curricula.
  • Proven experience engaging students in class experiences that foster critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity.
