Job Summary
Job Summary
- Work directly with coaches, physicians, athletic counseling and sports psychology personnel, sports dietitians, strength and conditioning personnel to deliver comprehensive healthcare and lifetime wellness services for student-athletes.
- Clinical and administrative daily responsibilities to include:
- Prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athletes.
- Pre-participation physicals.
- Inventory management of supplies and equipment.
- Maintaining medical records.
- Completing required insurance claims.
- Daily interaction, communication, and relationship building with coaching staff, strength and conditioning and sports performance personnel, physicians, fellow athletic trainers, other members of the medical community, and athletic administration.
- Attending team practices and events.
- Supervising other athletic trainers and athletic training students.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a medical contact and liaison between members of the coaching staff, student-athletes, parents, physicians, members of the Student-Athlete Health & Welfare Team.
- Provide a high level of customer service and communication at all times to all entities.
- Clinical application and administration of comprehensive health care and lifetime wellness services for student athletes.
- Attend assigned team practices, competitions, strength and conditioning sessions, and other team events.
- Maintain a safe environment for student-athletes.
- Medical documentation and record keeping.
- Counseling and education of student athletes.
- Maintain the organization, administration, inventory, and staffing of athletic training facilities.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures as defined by the NCAA, Conference, University, and University Department of Athletics.
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics and credentialing requirements of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and the State of Michigan Bureau of Health Care Services.
- Act as liaison with other members of the athletic department team in issues involving student-athletes.
- Participate in special projects, committees, or other initiatives as assigned.
- Represent the University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at University, State, Regional, and national conferences.
- Supervision, education, and preceptor of students enrolled in the athletic training education program.
- Travel with football and/or other assigned team(s) as needed and/or directed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in athletic training or a related field.
- Compliance and understanding of Conference and NCAA rules.
- Ability to champion a culture of innovative thought, life-long learning and continuous improvement.
- Ability to follow policies and procedures set forth by the University and the University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
- Strong communication skills.
- Must be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, coaches, student athletes, physicians, and other allied health personnel.
- Must possess problem solving and critical thinking skills, innovation and creativity, adaptability, initiative and stress tolerance to various situations in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
- Must provide a high level of customer service.
- Ability to work long hours.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, work in various environmental conditions, and assist injured individuals.
- Proven ability to multi-task, work independently, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Desired Qualifications
- Certified Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
- Ability to meet Continuing Education requirements as established by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification and the State of Michigan.
- Eligible for athletic training licensure by the State of Michigan Bureau of Health Care Services.
- Familiarity with manual therapy techniques.
- Familiarity with sport specific injuries.
- Athletic Training Student preceptor experience.
- Working knowledge of electronic medical record system.
- Demonstrated successful leadership and decision making skills.
