Job Summary

Job Summary

  • Reports to the Principals and Head of School.
  • Responsible for exercising leadership in school-wide athletic programs including innovation, program improvement, communication and administrative procedures.
  • Primary responsibility for maintaining open lines of communication and for coordination of all Sports/Athletic programs. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the School’s athletic program.
  • Assist with maintaining the safety of students, staff, and the school plant.
  • Oversee School athletic programs.
  • Selection of coaches and certified athletic trainers.
  • Coordinate training programs for athletic coaches and develop coaching education programs.
  • Coordinate parent meetings related to school athletic programs.
  • Coordinate school athletic events.
  • Act as the liaison between the athletic department and the facilities and school.
  • Establish and maintain an effective system for verifying student athletic eligibility.
  • Coordinate safety programs and provide risk management training for all coaches and trainers.
  • Serve as liaison between parents, coaches, leagues and other school. 
  • Plan, organize and supervise school athletic events.
  • Arrange the contracting of officials.
  • Provide leadership in establishing and maintaining positive school/community relations.
  • Responsible for facilities for teams including fields, gyms, tracks, courts, equipment, etc.
  • Attends school events.
  • Chaperones student events as needed.
  • Responsible for all athletic handbooks.
  • Prepare annual athletic budget with principal and Finance.

Working Relationships

  • Ability to maintain confidential and positive working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, school and community organizations and the general public.
  • Coordinate and facilitate communications and serve as liaison between administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, school and community organizations and the general public.

Knowledge of

  • Education code applicable to school operations.
  • Familiarity with ISACS criteria and standards of excellence.
  • Follow professionalism guidelines as defined in employee handbook/orange binder.
  • School policies and procedures.
  • Laws and regulations regarding co-curricular programs.
  • Techniques of consensus building.
  • Use of technology in communication and data analysis.
  • Budget development and supervision.
  • Child and adolescent development.

Ability to

  • Effectively plan, organize, coordinate and supervise school athletic programs.
  • Provide inspirational leadership to staff and students with particular emphasis on character education.
  • Effectively analyze problems, issues and concerns and formulate appropriate solutions.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Establish and maintain effective organizational, public and community relationships.
  • Comply with Archdiocese of Chicago required background steps.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s in Physical Education or Administration.
  • A valid Illinois type 10 teaching certificate.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Extensive background in working with school-based athletic programs including 3 - 5 years of progressive responsibility in working with school, community and other athletic organizations.
  • A valid First Aid and CPR Certification issued by an authorized agency.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The employee is often required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Continual and/or intermittent walking for up to 15 minutes at a time may be required.
  • The employee is required to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands.
  • The employee may be required to lift 10 - 50 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Hours of work may vary Sunday through Saturday and are structured in eight hour blocks of time, but they may be subject to include evenings and weekends as required for the departments or School’s needs.
