Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY

  • Primary function of this position is to supervise and participate in an athletic training program.
  • Participate in an athletic training program that meets the health care needs of all student-athletes including the prevention, assessment, care, management, rehabilitation, healthcare administration, and education and guidance of the injuries sustained.
  • Responsible for the coverage of specific athletic teams.
  • Position reports to the Head Athletic Trainer.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
  • Assist with annual student-athlete preparticipation physical exams.
  • Complete medical coverage of assigned teams.
  • Assist with medical insurance coordination- write and upkeep accurate medical records and documentation.
  • Assist with inventory and budgeting.
  • Assists with home and away event coverage.
  • Provides clinical supervision as a preceptor of athletic training students for an affiliated CAATE Athletic Training Education Program.
  • Provide for the development of the student athlete's spiritual growth and athletic health and well-being.
  • Perform duties necessary for the day-to-day operations in the athletic training room.
  • Assist with projects directed by Head Athletic Trainer and/or Director of Athletic Training Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Master's Degree preferred in a related field.
  • Certification through the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification.

Experience

  • Two years athletic training experience at the university level.
  • Eligible to provide supervision to an affiliated athletic training education program as a preceptor.

Skills

  • First Aid, CPR and AED for the professional rescuer.
  • Skills in the following areas: injury assessment, care, treatment, rehabilitation, manual therapy techniques.
  • Administrative skills in record keeping, charting, computer skills with basic programs as well as athletic training software.
  • People skills are also necessary in working with a diverse variety of people.
