Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY

  • The primary areas of responsibility for this position include oversight and operation of the Men’s and Women’s Swim Team including all aspects of coaching, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, and managing the programs within the policies and philosophy of the College.
  • This position also includes oversight as the director of aquatics and aquatics crew supervisor.
  • The director of aquatics is responsible for managing the pool and may also teach aquatics related courses as qualified.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Plans and implements a systematic recruiting program under the direction of the Athletic Director and Vice President of Admissions.
  • Additionally, reach recruiting goals/quotas.
  • Recruit and retain qualified student-athletes who are capable of academic, athletic, and social success in a competitive academic, athletic and work environment.
  • This may be done through visits, scouting, social media, phone calls, correspondence, camps, and clinics and other strategies to meet established roster goals.
  • Schedule intercollegiate contests.
  • Considerations include any community event, travel time, competition between like opponents, and realistic demands placed on student-athletes.
  • Promote a team culture conducive to academic and athletic excellence.
  • Create a high standard of athletic training, leadership, preparation, competition, exercise and skill development for all student-athletes.
  • Ensures compliance with all Association, Conference and College rules by athletes and supporting staff.
  • Hire and supervise assistant coach.
  • Attend department meetings, home and away athletic events as required.
  • Assist with game management and building operations as needed.
  • Program and Budget Management Organize and maintain all travel operations including scheduling, budgeting, driving and proper management of student-athletes.
  • Utilize recruiting software and maintain a database.
  • Oversee and manage the team budget while being fiscally responsible.
  • Reconcile credit card statements, collects and submits all departmental check requests to the office of administration and finance.
  • Maintain and inventory all swim team college assets.
  • Maintain appropriate office hours and files. Communications and Collaboration Work effectively with student-athletes, staff, faculty and administrators through good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Represent the college in an appropriate and professional manner at all times.
  • Assists in building relations with the WWC alumni.
  • Maintain a professional appearance when representing the college.
  • Establish a working and coaching presence in the athletic offices.
  • Aquatics Director Maintains a clean, safe, and inviting aquatic center to meet the fitness, recreational, and competitive needs of students, staff, staff families, rental groups, community pool members, and conference guests.
  • Monitors equipment, water quality and orders chemicals and other supplies as needed.
  • Manages the schedules for the facility, all pool activities; hiring, training, scheduling and supervising of qualified lifeguards and pool cleaners; developing and scheduling aquatic programming for the pool including classes, swim meets, swim lessons, lap swimming, camps, teams and other aquatic programs as developed and assigned.
  • Manages several budgets: pool maintenance, swim team and revenue.
  • Holds weekly meetings with pool crew and maintains OSHA certifications.
  • Collaborates with facilities staff to repair, maintain, and enhance the facility.
  • Teaching may include: lifeguard training, First Aid, CPR, and swimming. Aquatics Athletics Crew Supervisor Supervisor must make sure all students work their necessary hours and fulfilling their responsibilities.
  • Adhere to the Work Program Offices’ objectives of creating and fostering a positive learning experience and attend all supervisor training meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to the College’s mission and the mission of the Athletic Department.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in related fields which include program development and collegiate coaching.
  • Proven collegiate recruiting experience.
  • Previous swimming experience at the collegiate level.
  • Excellent computer skills are required, including proficiency with databases, spreadsheets and excellent word processing ability.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new tasks easily and ask questions.
  • Team player that shares a commitment to enhance the student experience.
  • Commitment to diversity equity and inclusion.
  • Experience in meet management and program operations.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • ASCA Certified Level 1 and 2 or equivalent preferred.
  • An ability to communicate with and interact positively with students, faculty, staff and the broader community.
  • Demonstrating competency in helping to meet program objectives, working independently and helps to establish program priorities.
  • The ability to develop a safe, functional, and inclusive working environment.
  • Experience as a pool manager with responsibility for budgeting, record keeping, safety and supervision preferred.
  • Must have lifeguard instructor certification and certified pool operator (CPO) certifications and/or willingness and ability to obtain certification.
  • A current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use.
  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one required.
