Job Summary

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop student athletes to their highest potential both academic and athletic.

  2. Recruit and enroll qualified student athletes.

  3. Work with the Admissions office athletics recruiting coordinator in providing information to any interested prospective student athletes.

  4. Communicate contacts with prospective student athletes to the Admissions office.

  5. Advise and direct all squad members, captains, team representatives for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and team managers on all matters concerning their lives as students and athletes at the college.

  6. Schedule and arrange all practices and competitions.

  7. Prepare a schedule that complies with department policy, goals and objectives in conjunction with the Director of Athletics and Recreation.

  8. Hire supervise and evaluate all assistant coaches.

  9. Organize and conduct effective training sessions and contests to improve student athletes' athletic effectiveness.

  10. Scout and prepare student athletes for opponents through effective game strategies.

  11. Review and uphold all NCAA, Landmark Conference and Moravian College rules, regulations and policies.

  12. Plan, prepare and conduct alumni events and programs.

  13. Prepare and submit sport and equipment budget requests for approval prior to purchase as requested by the Director adhering to department and college budget policies.

  14. Administer the sport budget in a fiscally responsible manner.

  15. Coordinate team travel, housing and meals for away events with Department administrative assistant.

  16. Submit a travel itinerary for required away contests

  17. Demonstrate at a high level leadership, sportsmanship, and personal and ethical conduct becoming of the College, the Landmark Conference, the NCAA and the appropriate professional coaching association.

  18. Annually review and adhere to the NCAA, Landmark Conference, and sport rules and requirements noting any current sport rule changes.

  19. Attend all required NCAA, Landmark Conference and sport association coaches meetings as well as Moravian college staff meetings.

  20. Communicate and cooperate with the Sports Medicine staff regarding athlete medical clearance, injury prevention, rehabilitation and the status of injured athletes.

  21. Communicate and cooperate with the Sports Information staff regarding the promotion of the team and individual student athletes.

  22. Submit timely facility, game and practice requests to the Assistant Director of Athletics with facility and time usage request.

  23. Notify the Office of the Director of Athletics and Recreation of any roster additions or deletions as soon as possible.

  24. Assure that all game and practice uniforms, clothing and equipment are issued and returned to the equipment room staff in an appropriate and orderly fashion, and all equipment is inventoried within one week of the last contest.

  25. Organize and conduct team community service activities each semester working with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the college community service director.

  26. Communicate, cooperate and assist the athletic administrative assistants and other institutional staff with the daily management of the sport program.

  27. Develop promotional events and strategies for home contests in conjunction the office of Sports Information.

  28. Submit an end of the season report including eligibility status of each student athlete, equipment inventory, year end self-evaluation and summary of season to the Director of Athletics and Recreation at annual season-end meeting.

  29. Performs other duties and special projects that may be assigned by the Director of Athletics and Recreation (or designee).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelors degree required, masters preferred

  • Experience: At least three years coaching at the intercollegiate level preferred

  • Related coaching experience in other areas/levels considered (directly related business school or college courses may be substituted equally for up to one year's experience); or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Must be detail-oriented and well organized.

  • Strict confidentiality of information pertaining to the office and alumni is essential. Familiarity with word processing systems is essential; familiarity with spreadsheets and data base creation and maintenance is essential.

  • Previous operational experience with office equipment is essential.

  • Prior experience with budget reconciliation is preferred.

  • Must be able to climb stairs, ambulate to run errands and carry items up to ten pounds.

  • Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Occasionally required to remain seated in a normal position for long periods of time

  • Regularly required to walk about

  • Regularly required to maintain balance while walking, standing, crouching, or running

  • Routinely required to reach up and out with hands and arms

  • Regularly required to talk and hear; verbally express information or instructions

  • Regularly required to use hands to grasp objects, type, pick up objects, move objects, or hold objects

  • Routinely required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl

  • Regularly required to climb stairs and/or ladders

  • Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds and carry a distance of 10 feet

  • Occasionally required to push and/or pull up to 25 pounds a distance of 10 feet

  • Routinely required to stand for long periods of time

  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)

  • Depth perception and the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships

  • Adjustable focus
