Job Summary

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Diagnosing all athletic injuries
  • Monitor practices as well as pre-practice taping and bracing
  • Provide medical emergency coverage for all games for both home and visiting teams
  • Design and create specific treatment plans and rehabilitation protocols for each individual injury and then document and track their progress
  •  Monitor hydration as well as general medical conditions for example: cold, flu, ect...
  • Meet with coaches and athletes to discuss progress and when the athlete may return to play
  • File insurance claims and track the progress of the claims processing which includes the tracking of both the student primary insurance and the school's secondary policy
  • Clean and/or sterilize athletic training room tables, instruments and tools
  • Travel out of town with the teams to road games and tournaments
  • Transport athletes to and from doctor visits and/or surgery

Additional Job Functions:

  • Inventory and order supplies and equipment as needed
  • Conduct and organizes pre-participation physicals for every sport
  • Coordinate with safety office for all insurance claims filed
  • Discuss recruits' medical history with coaches to determine possible medical problems
  • Maintains all medical and life saving equipment

Athletic Trainer Duties:

  • Collect, maintain, and verify all required Insurance/Medical Forms for all student athletes
  • Arrange and facilitate athletic physicals for all student - athletes at their respected campus
  • Facilitate and Arrange doctor appointments, transport athletes to/from doctor appointments
  • Assist District Safety office in completion and close-out of yearly insurance claims and bills.
  • Data entry for athletic insurance, incidence reports, and rehabilitation status in student's file on G drive. Other information as needed.
  • Travel with the team 
  • Pass the driving test
  • Evaluate and advise coaching staff of current and prospective athlete's medical histories to determine if there are potential problems/situations of concern with this athlete's participation in Athletics.
  • Must attend, be attentive and visible at all practices
  •  Organize, supervise, perform, and setup all rehabilitation for SJC sports injuries and surgeries as prescribe by the doctor.
  • Facilitate (that can be stretched into development of and leading) for new and returning athletes
  • Manager athletic training room
  • Maintain required licensing
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of a range of athletic injuries, insurance claim forms, rehabilitation protocols, and rehabilitation modalities. 
  • Skills to include taping, special orthopedic testing, rehabilitation practices and procedures, and insurance claims management.
  • Abilities include performing under highly stressful conditions and the recall and practice of life saving skills as necessary to maintain the safety of San Jacinto athletes. 

Education and Experience:

Required Education:

  • Bachelors Degree 

Preferred Education:

  • Graduate Degree

Required Experience:

  • 2 years of head athletic trainer experience

Preferred Experience:

  • 5 years plus of Head Athletic Trainer experience

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to human blood, tissue and bodily fluids
  • Office Environment
  • Outdoors
  • Road Trips to various locations

Physical Activity:

  • Lifting up to 100 pounds of force or more
  • Manipulation of athlete bodies for rehabilitation
  • Conducting athlete conditioning
  • Walking or standing for hours at a time
  • Lifting and transporting emergency kit (aprox 50lbs)
