  • Assists the Head Coaches in planning, organizing, and evaluating all aspects of the athletic group they represent. Helps to run practice sessions, motivates athletes, and instructs them on how to follow through with strategies set out by the Head Coach.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program; to include adhering to all Departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the NCAA.
  • Provides assistance in the coaching and coordination of various positions on the team.
  • Provides assistance in the identification and recruitment of potential student-athletes, in accordance with ACC and NCAA regulations, guidelines, and standards.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to student-athletes on a range of personal issues, as required.
  • Leads, monitors, and coordinates training and practice sessions, ensuring that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained.
  • Advises and counsels with student-athletes regarding their obligations to comply with all rules and regulations related to financial aid, eligibility, as well as personal conduct and appearance.
  • Participates in the collection and analysis of tactical and statistical data of opponent's teams and assists in designing game plans and strategies. Attends coaches' preparatory meetings and implements strategies resulting from these meetings.
  • Assists with approved fundraising activities, as requested.
  • Participates in clinics, exhibitions and camp activities, as approved.
  • Participates in public relations activities, to include speaking engagements, television and radio interviews and press conferences, as approved or requested. Represents the athletic department at professional, civic, charitable and alumni events.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree with one to three years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes in area of specialty.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the game.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative environment.
