Job Summary
Accountabilities:
- Provide leadership and expertise on the selection, validation, and integration of all biomechanical tools
- Lead internal/interdepartmental research efforts to better understand aspects of movement as they relate to player health, performance, monitoring, and development
- Monitor emerging technologies in movement science, including the coordination of trials, internal validation processes, feasibility and potential valuation
- Assist the Director, Performance Science in helping coaches and coordinators leverage baseball performance technology, quantitative reports, and scientific processes to improve the precision and efficacy of individual development plans (IDPs)
- Monitor major and minor league data collected from performance technologies in practices and games; decipher and communicate trends in player health and performance through established chains of command
- Manage in-game biomechanical data for Major League pitching staff, including the analysis of health and performance and communication of observations through established chains of command
- With the Performance Science staff, develop, refine, and coordinate the execution of comprehensive but efficient technical skills assessment processes for all major and minor league hitters and pitchers in the organization
- Advise front office and ownership on infrastructure developments and investments that will position the club to maximize the effectiveness of biomechanical tools and other performance technologies
Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in human movement science related field; doctorate preferred
- Proficiency in relevant computer and software programs (SQL, R, Visual3D, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Nexus, etc.)
- Demonstrated expertise in sports biomechanics and the ability to apply these principles effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting elite athletes in a high-pressure environment
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to dynamically adapt messaging according to the background, education, and preferences of a very diverse groups of stakeholders across the organization
- Candidate must exhibit excellent organizational skills, intellectual curiosity, stress tolerance, and a persistent desire to start and complete projects, including the management of multiple projects at once
- Previous experience with athletes from overhead throwing and/or swing-based (golf) sports strongly preferred
- Previous coaching experience strongly preferred (baseball, S&C, golf, track and field, etc.)
- Skilled in data collection, processing, analysis, and visualizations using performance technologies; familiarity with baseball specific tools preferred (Blast Motion, K Vest, Rapsodo, Edgertronic, etc.)
