Job Summary


Required Qualifications

  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for constructive interaction with associates, assistants, coaches, department staff, student-athletes, administrators and faculty.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in sensitive situations, and work effectively in a fast-paced and complex work environment.
  • Strong planning and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules preferred.
  • Six years of athletics administrative experience, preferably including sport oversight and/or collegiate coaching experience.
  • Master's degree in athletics administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.



Key Accountabilities

Sport Supervision (50%)

  • Oversees all aspects of select varsity programs, including supervision and evaluation of coaches, goal setting, strategic planning, scheduling, budget development and management, and hiring.
  • Contributes to the leadership and direction of the overall varsity sports program as a member of the athletic director's varsity sports senior management team.

Special Events and Projects for Women's Athletics (5%)

  • Leads or contributes to efforts to enhance the visibility and support of women's athletic programs and cultivate connections with alumni/ae, parents, and friends.
  • Promotes professional development opportunities for coaches of women's sports.

General Administration (20%)

  • Serves as a member of the athletic director's senior management team. Contributes to department-wide administration, policy development, and strategic planning efforts.
  • Serves on department and college committees.
  • Articulates the department vision and goals in concert with the College's mission and values.
  • Maintains effective relations with faculty, students, alumni and athletics support groups. * Oversees the documentation and periodic editing of Departmental policies and procedures in a Departmental Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Serves as an event manager for select home contests as necessary.

Oversees one or more of the following functional areas of the department: (25%)

Compliance

  • Oversees the implementation of a comprehensive program to ensure compliance with NCAA and Ivy League rules.
  • Supervises an Assistant/Associate Athletic Director for Compliance.

Varsity Athletics Communications

  • Supervises the Director of Varsity Athletics Communications and works closely with this individual to set priorities and develop strategies to maximize efficient coverage and publicity for all varsity sports, including media relations, publications, personnel assignments, website development, video production, new media, and other avenues.

Liaison to Human Resources

  • Serves as the primary contact with the College's Department of Human Resources for the varsity sports area to provide administrators and coaches with guidance on College HR policies and procedures.
  • Assists hiring supervisors by managing the DORR process, develops and implements new employee orientation program, oversees immigration/visa process, and assists supervisors in developing performance improvement plans for specific employees.

Event Management

  • Directs, supervises, and coordinates all facets of the athletics event management program.
  • Facilitates the development and implementation of policies and procedures that contribute to high quality varsity athletic events for both the participants and the spectators.
  • Oversees the assignment, hiring, and payment of personnel necessary for game management (i.e. game officials, announcers, clock operators, minor officials, ushers, student workers, etc.).
